Jason POV
I woke up in a daze. When I came to, I was sitting back in the chair, with the Supreme removing her hands from my head.
"In just barely enough" she said, as she took a seat in the corner.
I could see myself through her eyes as her thoughts ran through my head. My eyes were black - a signal that I had her Mark. It would fade away soon enough.
"She is here," the Supreme said.
By "'she" she meant Giovanna. The Mark was already augmenting my abilities. I could sense Giovanna's mind. I could even sense Leona, who had been blocking me out this entire time.
"Keep her at bay. I need to gather my strength," she said, sounding a bit out of breath.
I looked at her long and hard. For once, the Supreme looked human. She seemed just like the rest of us.
"How long have we been gone?" I asked.
"Two weeks."
I gaped at her.
"We have no time to feel surprised. Go." she demanded. I turned on my feet and marched out to where the action was.
When I reached the main chambers it looked like a tornado had come through.
I saw Delaney using her force to keep her balance. She was irritated with Augustus - she felt like he'd doubted her abilities after all this time. Augustus was picking himself up from the ground and trying to get his bearings. He'd acknowledged Delaney's feelings but still stood by what he said. As he took in the scene around him he felt that his assessment had been correct.
Giovanna appeared as the dust settled. Behind her stood two people. I recognized Myra immediately. She looked fierce - her eyes glowing and her hair tied into a tight pony tail. She was ready for a fight. Eager.
The other person, I didn't recognize but Augustus did. Her name was Elizabeth. She didn't look as angry as Myra did, but there was still a sinister feeling to her.
My attention returned to Giovanna. She had to be bold to come here like this. Bold and unbelievably strong. Her gaze caught mine and it was as if she knew what I was thinking. Was she a telepath as well?
I saw the other Court members picking themselves up from the rubble. Philomene was closest to the intruders. Sebastian and Frederick were off to one side and the Leona and Winston off to the other. We outnumbered them easily, but Giovanna clearly thought she could take us if she came with only two other people.
My mind was still a bit raw from what I'd endured from the Supreme, but I opened up a little. I could still get faint readings from Leona. I could see Giovanna's thoughts, but they were vague as well. I knew enough about her now to know that she was a magic twister. Her abilities were founded in witchcraft, with the only known limitations being her imagination. She could create illusions that only a select few would be able to see through. Her aura acts as both a protective barrier as well as an extension of her mind.
As I tried to come up with a strategic plan, something tugged in the back of my mind. An image popped into my head. Blurry and pixeled. Sharp pain ran through my chest. I turned my head to see Sebastian clutching his torso. Was he having a heart attack?
I realized that it was Sebastians thoughts running through my head right now. He was seeing visions as his eyes worked furiously to find the answer. Suddenly, he came to a realization. I watched through his eyes as he looked across the room.
Leona and Winston looked back with horror on their faces.
He tried to open his mouth to speak, but something inside of him burst before he could do it. Sebastian fell to the floor in a heap.
