Jungkook opened the double doors of the police station, taking in the new building and the people walking around or sitting behind the desks. The place seemed busy, lively, it made Jungkook's smile widen. He already was in a good mood even though it was an early Monday morning. The birds were singing, the air was fresh, the sun was shining, and what the fuck, how was the dark-haired man so happy?
"Oh, new kid, good morning." A man shorter than Jungkook came up to him and held out his hand. The male took it and bowed his head slightly at his sharp-eyed superior.
"Jeon Jungkook," he said, hearing a hum from the other man. Two other men carrying files walked to them.
"Min Yoongi, senior officer," the small man said, withdrawing his hand and giving space for the others.
"I'm Taehyung! Kim Taehyung. It's nice to see new faces once in a while. I hope we'll get along well, the station has really friendly people," Taehyung grinned, teeth on full display as he swiftly shook Jungkook's hand. "Were you twenty-four? We're your hyungs!" With that, the brunet man excused himself and continued walking toward what seemed like the captain's office, knocking on the door before stepping in.
"Kim Namjoon, your partner, nice to meet you. The captain will want to meet you today, but he's been busy in his office with a case since Friday night. He's such a hard worker. All of us admire him because of that." The tall man chuckled and motioned Jungkook to follow him. "This is your table. Mine is the one in front, Taehyung's is that messy one next to you."
"Great, thanks," Jungkook smiled, taking a testing seat on his chair and spinning around. "This place is already much nicer than the station I was in before. Can you show me around more?"
"Sure. We have about half an hour until we gotta go to patrol. Come."
Namjoon took Jungkook on a quick tour around the station, well, mostly taking his sweet time teaching him how the microwave worked and how important it was to put the dirty dishes into the dishwasher instead of leaving them into the sink. The older man said the captain would get angry and make you wash everything with your bare hands.
The two men were about to walk out of the building when the doors of the captain's office opened, Taehyung emerging from the room with a frown on his face. Namjoon frowned as well, already knowing what the reason behind the sadness of his chirpy colleague's expression was.
"Is cap okay?" he asked. The younger sighed and shook his head, a hand going to rub the back of his neck.
"He's so fucking stressed over the case he's working on. He looks like a ghost, white as a sheet if you don't count the eyebags. He's so tired he falls asleep every five minutes. I just got him to take a nap on his couch." Taehyung groaned and cracked his neck. "He also keeps saying he misses someone."
"Who? He isn't dating anyone, right?" the eldest asked. Jungkook felt just slightly awkward in between the two others.
"He would've told me if he was. I'm his best friend, you see." Taehyung directed the last sentence at the younger man, smiling apologetically. "The cap's a great person, the best I know. You'll get to see that after this case is wrapped up and he isn't a walking corpse anymore." The man tried to add in a small laugh, but it only came out as a choked breath. Jungkook nodded understandingly.
"What's the case?" he asked, looking at his new working partner questioningly after the brunet man left to make their captain some lunch, as the guy apparently hadn't eaten breakfast yet. The two were making their way to their car. Namjoon got into the driver's seat and Jungkook plopped down next to him, swiftly looking around to spot any personality indicating ornaments. There was a Ryan bobblehead. Jungkook decided he'll buy fuzzy dice to hang on the rear-view mirror after getting to know the other a bit better.
