I open my eyes to see Harry’s face right in front of mine. A slight smile tugs at his lips and I think he is having a good dream, and I start to wonder what about when he talks to me.
“You do realise I know you’re staring at me?” He chuckles, opening his eyes and tightening his grip around my waist that little bit more. It’s amazing what that little gesture does to me. The feelings it gives me; warmth, security, happiness, everything positive really.
I roll my eyes in response and peel the covers of my body, the cool air hitting my bare legs and arms, making the warmth Harry gave me vanish.
Opening the door to the room in which the girls are meant to be sleeping in right now, I let out a piercing scream as the bed is nothing but a pile of messy sheets, with no sleeping twins in it.
“What happened?” Harry asks, running up behind me.
“The-The girls aren’t there” I stutter. I turn on my heel before he has time to reply and race out of the hotel room, Harry hot on my heels.
“And where are you going?” Harry asks as we leave the hotel doors, the rain hitting me hard on the face, causing my hair to stick to my face. For a hot place there sure is a lot of rain.
“To find them?” I stated the obvious.
“No, Cassie” He replies, grabbing my shoulders to turn me around to face him. “Go to the police. I’ll look”
“Harry, you’re not going on you-“
“Cassie it’s better than you going.” He cuts me off. “Go tell the police. I’ll call you if I find them okay?” Once I nod, he places a kiss to my forehead and we go our separate ways. I go left to the police station that I saw down the road on our way to the hotel the first day we got here.
I can’t believe this has happened. We have only been here for four days and both of them have gone missing. I don’t even know how. Did the wander off? Or has someone came into the room? Or.. you know, I don’t even want to think about that right now, either way, they have disappeared.
I push open the heavy black door of the station, revealing a very boring front desk. Consisting of a few desks behind a glass window, framed by wooden pillars, with ’police department’ wrote at the top of it.
I pretty much sprint from the door to the desk, fear taking the better of me.
“I’m here to report missing children” I blurt as soon as I am in talking distance of the police officer at the front desk.
“Can you tell me when and where you last saw these children and a description of their appearance please?” A short girl with brown hair that reaches her shoulder blades asks, taking out a notepad and a pen.
“I last saw them about half eight last night when I put them to bed at my hotel. There’s two of them. Five-year-old twins, about this height” I reply as calmly as I can muster in this situation, holding my shaking hands out beside me, showing the lady what height they are. “Both of them have sandy coloured hair, one with green eyes, the other has blue. And slightly tanned” I finished, my voice shaking as I am on the verge of tears and my body trembling in its skin.
“And what were they last seen wearing?”
“One of them had pink pyjama’s on with flowers printed on the bottoms, the other one the same on in purple.” I say. She nod’s and asks me their names and a few more questions, before telling me I can stay at the station or go back to my hotel. I chose to stay here.
I place myself down on one of the silver metal seats at the wall, leaning my elbows on my knees, my head in my hands. And it starts.
The tears fall slowly, one by one, but soon turn into a waterfall dropping freely from my eyes, picking up more speed every second. And soon, my vision is blurry from the tears, and my lips sting from the salty water dripping onto them.
“Hey, hey ssssh” A voice coo’s me, wrapping their arms around me in a side hug. I turn my head to look up at the body and I can see the brown curly hair moving as he rocks me back and forth.
“Get off me Harry” I snap, standing up and crossing to the other side of the room. I don’t want to be near anyone right now, not until I have my girls back safely in my arms.
“Cass-“ He starts, and begins to walk over to where I am standing.
“NO HARRY” I yell. “Leave me alone. Go see your family or something.” I finish.
“I’ not leaving you C-“
“GO HARRY” I yell, and he finally gets it, and leaves the building.
I slide down the wall until I am in a sitting position, and let the tears keep falling as freely as they wish, until my eyes fall heavy and close.
