The things I read, oh how much they scare me,

If I distance myself, it's not because I hate thee.

It's because I'm afraid, I don't really know why,

I'm just scared of people, and no, I'm not "shy".

This one gets shot, and that one gets bruised,

People get killed, and the world is confused.

I'm scared to read the news, what will I see?

Troubled minds and teens on a killing spree.

In my own home, I no longer feel secure,

Locked windows and doors just to be sure.

I'm scared to go outside, in here I'm locked away,

Afraid of the outside world, and what people might say.
