Ch.3

Arlen

The forest was something out of a sci-fi movie. The grass lit up where I stepped, as well as the flowers lining the bases of trees. The trees were extremely tall and wide, so tall I couldn't see the top of them and so wide that it would take a dozen people to wrap around one of them. There were plants everywhere with colors I'd never seen before. The animals were completely foreign to me, and only proved that this world was not earth. The little critters were everywhere, and decorated with colors that I never knew possible. I was in awe, and had completely forgotten that I was in pursuit of the fox girl.

Shaking my head, I focused on what was in front of me. I needed to find her. Although this forest was beautiful, getting lost wasn't a situation that I wanted to find myself in. I quickly made my way through the brush, eventually entering a clearing with a large river running through it. I was astounded by the color of the water. The water was pink, a light pink that reminded me of the fox's eyes.

I slowly approached the river, completely at awe. I wonder if it's safe to drink. As I peered into the water, I was a bit surprised at how deep it was. The pink color turned black as I stared down into the abyss. Suddenly, a flash of white caught my eye. I quickly followed the movement, eyes widening when I saw what looked to be a face.

I stumbled back with a squeal. Tripping over an exposed root, I landed right on my butt as a pair of hands appeared on the shore of the river, followed closely by a face. My eyes widened as the most beautiful woman I have ever seen peered at me. Her hair was long and pink, just like the river she emerged out of and her sky blue eyes were filled with want as she slowly stood up. Her body looked as if it was sculpted by God itself, and I was sure it would put any model to shame. I bushed furiously. I may be a gay man, but denying this woman's beauty would just be a crime.

She walked slowly in my direction, her hips swaying and water dripping slowly off her body. I backed away, suddenly feeling very scared. Something was wrong. This woman was much more dangerous than she appeared.

"Don't be afraid, little elf, come with me." Her voice drew me in like a moth to a flame, and without me even knowing it, I found myself grabbing her hand. She smiled seductively and my cheeks burned with embarrassment.

"Come into the water with me," she sighed, "The water feels great."

I suddenly snapped back to my senses and tried to pull myself out of her trance, but it was like she was controlling my body. No matter how much my brain screamed at me to run away, I couldn't. She had me in her trap. Just when I thought it was all over for me, an arrow whizzed by and grazed the side of the woman's head.

Three black lines appeared on either side of her face and her blue eyes turned black with rage. I watched as two more black lines appeared on the sides of her lips. She opened her mouth and screeched, and I nearly passed out when half of her face formed into a large gaping hole full of sharp teeth and a black tongue.

Suddenly broken from her charm, I wrenched myself free and ran away from the monster with a girlish scream leaving my throat. Looking up, I was relieved to see the fox girl standing on the branch of a tree with a bow in her hands. I quickly ran over to the tree and squatted down near the base. I didn't know how she got up there, but I knew that I couldn't climb.

The naked woman growled furiously, her black eyes filled with hatred as she glared at her assailant.

"You little bitch!" she snarled, "He was mine!"

"Shut up, you stupid fish, I saw him first!" the fox girl retorted. She jumped down from the tree and stood in front of me, nocking another arrow as she did so. I peered at the woman cautiously.

"You better get back in the water, fish, or you'll dry out."

With a snarl, the woman dived back into the water, disappearing from view. I sighed in relief and slid down the base of the tree, placing a hand over my rapid beating heart. I turned to the fox girl, expecting answers. Sighing, she snapped her fingers and her bow disappeared into thin air. My eyes widened in shock.

"That was a siren," she started as grabbed my hand and pulled me to my feet, "Sirens are known for encouraging men and women into the water, and then eating them while they are still struggling for air. You're lucky I was here, otherwise, you'd be dead."

I was horrified that I had encountered such a dangerous ... monster in just a short period of time. I just got here and this fox had already saved my butt twice. I nodded rapidly and thanked her. I then remembered that I wanted to reconcile with the girl who'd saved me.

"I'm sorry about before," I apologized shyly, "I shouldn't have said those things to you."

She stared blankly at me for a few moments before nodding and holding her hand out for me to shake. With a smile, I took her hand and she gave it a firm shake.

"My name is Helen, and you are?"

"Arlen," I answered.

She nodded and grabbed ahold of my wrist, pulling me along. I stumbled as I attempted to keep up with her quick pace.

"Well, Arlen, we better get out of these woods, the demons come out at night."

With that warning in my mind, I followed Helen as she led me out of the forest.
