Ch. 38

Arlen

"Mummy!"

I winced in pain as a voice that didn't belong to me invaded my mind.

"Please wake up, mummy! I don't want to be alone again!" the childish voice whimpered.

My heart clenched in my chest at the sad voice. Despite not knowing who the voice belonged to, I wanted to hold whoever was sounding so pitiful right now. I tried to force myself to open my eyes, but my body was so tired, so tired my eyelids felt as if they weighed a ton. My body was no different. My arms, legs, head, even my fingers felt like large slabs of concrete that were attached to my limbs. I could feel myself growing worried as the voice in my head started to cry. Suddenly, a foreign emotion slammed into me, intense fear and sadness.

"Please, mummy, don't leave me. It'll get cold again," the voice sobbed.

Suddenly, my eyes flew open and immediately came into contact with Shiro's scared and sad crystal blue orbs. Her eyes widened in shock before she started purring and rubbing her head against my face and under my chin.

"Mummy! You're awake, mummy! I was so scared!"

Her purrs filled the small and cramped room I was in. I eyed her in surprise.

"Was that you in my head?" I asked. I winced as my throat burned. My voice was hoarse and my throat hurt. Just how long had I been in here?

"Yes!" Shiro answered as she stared down at me, "This is Shiro! I learned this trick after trying to wake you up!"

Pride filled me as I stared down at her. Shiro had only just hatched and she was already speaking fluently and telepathically, makes me wonder what she'll be capable of in a few years. My attention was taken away from Shiro as I finally noticed the pain in my wrists. I moved my arms, releasing a quiet sigh at the shackles that held me captive. It was then I realized that I was lying on my back and Shiro was standing on my chest.

I released a grunt as I went to sit up, Shiro jumping off of me as I did so. I was inside of what looked to be a cell that was as small as a closet. Beside me was a toilet that smelled like raw sewage and a sink with a broken mirror hanging above it.

"What is this place mummy? Why did the fat, male, human trap us down here?" Shiro asked as she crawled into my lap, staring up into my eyes curiously.

I shook my head, "I'm pretty sure this is a prison of some sorts, and he trapped us down here because he's a greedy bastard."

I slowly rubbed Shiro's head as I looked through the bars. It was terribly dark, the only source of light we had was a single torch located on the wall outside of my cell. It only did so much though; it only illuminated a small portion of the hall and the bars of the cell directly across from mine. I pursed my lips as an unpleasant memory of my death crept up into my mind. Despite me trying to forget it, I could still remember, as if it were yesterday, the dark, concrete room I was trapped in back on earth. I took a deep breath and shook the depressing thoughts out of my head. I had to get us out of here and find out just what the hell is going on.

"Mummy," Shiro whined, "I'm really hungry. The fat man only fed me once today."

I gasped and checked my status screen. My mana bar was still incredibly low, so any magic tricks was a bit impossible right now, but I had enough mana to grow some fruit and summon some water.

I did just that. Shiro immediately attacked the peaches I'd made for her. She growled lowly as she tore into the poor fruit like a rabid animal. I laughed and quenched my thirst, sighing gratefully.

I turned to Shiro, who had already finished her food and asked, "Shiro, do you know how long have we been down here?"

"Two days and two nights, this is our third day here. I'm so happy you've finally woke up, I was so scared."

I petted her lovingly, apologizing softly. She purred happily. I could only imagine the panic she felt. I felt incredibly guilty for leaving her to fend for herself. Here I was having vowed to protect her, and less than a day after she was born, I left her all alone.

When I'd finished my water and a couple pieces of fruit, I got to my feet and slowly made my way over to the bars. I peeked out, hoping to see anyone. There was only one more torch that was further down the hallway, and like mine, it only lit up a small portion of the hallway. The rest of the place was pitch black. Since I had run out of mana potions, I couldn't take one and didn't have the materials or the mana to make any more.

"Hello?" I asked, "Gabriel? Seth? Landon? Any of you guys out there?"

Nothing. I didn't know if I was alone or if my guild members were still out cold.

"I can smell some of them nearby," Shiro hummed as she sniffed the air.

I sighed and relief and reached through the bars, fiddling with the lock. I found myself growing worried for them. I knew they all had to be feeling both hungry and thirsty. They needed my help.

Suddenly, the door leading to the cells opened. The darkness was instantly shattered by the bright light that invaded the hallway. I quickly backed away from the bars, carrying my shackles as to not make any noise. I quickly lay down on the floor and turned away from the bars. I knew that I couldn't let them find out that I was awake. If they did, they could poison me again.

Shiro instantly curled up beside me, burying her head into the crook of my neck.

"To think that you took down The Shadow Realm so easily," a voice chuckled, "I must commend you."

I squeezed my eyes shut and bit down on my tongue to keep myself from lashing out. Took us down? What a fucking joke! The damn coward poisoned us!

"I see that you made use of that beautiful enchantress," the masculine voice chuckled again, "You should have an heir soon!"

I felt my heart stop as I suddenly remembered Riza. We'd been separated from her! That fat bastard! Not only had she lost her family, but now that monster was using her! I clenched my fists. As much as I wanted to annihilate them, I couldn't. I had to gather my strength.

"I hear you have two elves, a prince and a caster. I want to see them, perhaps I'll purchase them. I could use more toys." The man chuckled. Shiro released a quiet growl. I softly shushed her. I had to get the fuck out of here. Whoever that pervert was did not sound like good news!
