Ch. 15
Arlen
The ocean was nothing like I expected it to be. I really don't understand why I keep expecting places or animals in this world to be similar to earth. Every single time I assume what something is going to be like, I always end up completely shocked and way off the mark. Imagine that you are on the beach, but instead of staring out into the horizon, you're staring at a gigantic piece of ice that's so tall you can't see the top. That was the ocean that Landon loved so much, except, the ice wasn't exactly ice, it was liquid water. I had always thought liquids had to be solid in order to keep their shape, but this world proved me wrong once more.
I turned towards Landon, my face exploding when I saw him stripping away his clothes and revealing his magnificent body to me. Gasping, I quickly looked away, forcing myself to stare at the wall of water and the many, many animals living in the water. Landon cheered and raced towards the wall of water. My jaw dropped as a path was formed in the wall of water. I was suddenly reminded of the Bible story, Moses and the Red Sea. The water seemed to retreat the more Landon raced towards it until it finally opened up to a clearing. Though he was pretty far away, I could still see what looked to be a lake.
"What the fuck?" I whispered harshly.
My curiosity soon got the best of me and I slowly took off my clothes, leaving on my boxers. I guess I'll be going commando on the way back.
Placing my clothes in my storage, I slowly made my way along the path Landon created. Who would have thought that I would be walking on sand though walls of liquid water? I slowly walked between the walls of water, taking my special time to look at all the animals that swam by. I stopped when I saw a flash of blue. It didn't take me long to realize that the blue I saw was hair, hair that belonged to a very beautiful mermaid. She turned towards me, and our eyes met. I waved stupidly, unable to say anything. She smiled softly and waved before swimming off.
I shook my head in disbelief, "Mermaids exist!"
Laughing to myself, I quickly made my way through the rest of the path and to the lake that Landon was currently swimming in. Yes, there were lakes in the ocean. How was this possible? I have no clue; all I could tell you was that this was a fantasy world and that you should expect the unexpected.
"Took you long enough," Landon teased when I finally emerged from the pathway.
His eyes raked over my small pale self and once again, I felt myself turning a few shades redder. I slowly made my way towards the lake and peered through the clear water. The lake wasn't very deep at all. If anything, they were more like shallow tide pools. I slowly stepped into the cool water and sat down. I couldn't swim to save my life, so I was thankful that this pool was shallow.
I shivered quietly and wrapped my arms around myself. It was a little cold. I turned towards Landon, only to look away when I saw him already looking at me with awe. It felt like his eyes were burning holes into my flesh. Why is he looking at me so intently?! It's so embarrassing!
I felt like I was slowly withering away the longer he stared at me.
"Is there something on my face?" I asked jokingly.
He flinched and started blinking rapidly.
"N-No!" he huffed.
I sunk deeper into the pond and looked up at the wall of water that surrounded us. If there were lakes like this one, then how does one travel overseas? You should know this Arlen; if they have flying trains, this world probably has flying airships or something like that.
