Ch. 40
Arlen
I remained as silent as death as the two men passed by my cell, chatting to themselves. My heart sped up in my chest as the sound of their footsteps suddenly stopped.
"This here is the caster elf," I heard the Lord say, "Be wary, he has a pretty feisty pet dragon. Luckily, she seems to be sleeping. I can't tell you how many times the little bitch bit me."
I was immediately filled with pride and secretly smirked. Shiro was a feisty little dragon and I was so proud of her.
"Do you think I could get a better look at him?" I heard the masculine voice ask. I felt myself stiffen. If they came in, they would undoubtedly discover that I was awake and probably poison me again. I had to gain my strength, and there was no way in hell I was going to allow anyone to take me away from Shiro ever again.
Shiro, sensing my distress, climbed on top of me and hissed protectively. I could hear them both as they stumbled away from the cell. I held in the chuckle that wanted to escape.
"It would seem as if we've woken her up. Don't you have something to sedate her? Or perhaps kill her? She has become an annoyance."
It took everything inside of me not to launch myself at that disgusting bastard. These bitches were after Shiro now, and that was a serious fucking issue. I would fight the entire world if it meant protecting her. I'd be damned if these two jackasses did anything to harm her. My body shook slightly as I struggled to control my anger.
"Yes! I don't know why I didn't think of that before. Please, follow me, I'll show you what we have in stock!"
I remained deathly still until I heard them exit the dungeon. I sat up, glaring at the place where they once stood. I stood up and yanked at the shackles. I needed to get free, and I needed to do it now. I turned towards Shiro who was already looking up at me.
"If they come back before I get free, don't let them touch you and don't eat anything," I instructed her, "You're allowed to defend yourself in any way you see fit."
"Yes, Mummy!" Shiro chirped.
I grew more fruit and forced them down, trying to get as much mana as possible. I needed enough mana to break these chains and these bars. I didn't know what I would do after that, but I'd cross that bridge when I got to it. I checked my mana bar, pursing my lips when I saw that it wasn't even halfway full.
"It'll do for now," I whispered to myself.
Grabbing the chain attached to the metal cuff on my wrist, I closed my eyes and started to concentrate. Almost immediately, the metal started to rust at an alarming rate. Within seconds, it crumbled to dust in my hands. The rest of the chain clattered noisily to the floor, making me flinch and pause, listening to see if anyone had heard.
"Hurry, Mummy," Shiro hissed quietly, "I can hear someone approaching."
My heart was beating frantically as I quickly freed myself from the other chain. I quickly moved towards the bars and did the same thing. I pushed them apart, gritting my teeth as my muscles ached from the strain. I quickly slipped through, followed by Shiro. Picking her up, I ran deeper into the darkness, peering into each cell for my guildmates.
"A bit further," Shiro whispered, "I can smell a female demon."
I pursed my lips. Yami was the last person I wanted to see, and I'm sure the same could be same for her, but right now, I didn't have much of a choice. I continued down the dark hallway, using my right hand to guide me through the darkness until I spotted another torch. I ran towards it and looked inside of the cell. Yami lay on the floor, still out cold. I gently placed Shiro down on the ground and grabbed the metal bars, separating the two of us. Using my trick from earlier, I weakened the metal and pushed the bars apart, stepping inside.
