Ch. 42

Arlen

Night fell upon the land faster than I'd expected. With our strength back up to a hundred percent, Yami and I were ready to go to war to save our friends. After Xander's story, I was more than ready to kill that fat bastard. He had hurt many people, and if left alive, he would hurt many more people. I put my hair up in a high ponytail and tied it tight. It was time now.

After Xander asked for our help, we came up with a plan, and that plan was to rush in, kill anything that came at us and pray for the best. We didn't have time to make a detailed plan. We had left our guildmates long enough; there was no telling what that monster had done to them since we'd escaped. If he'd hurt them in any way, I don't think I'd ever be able to forgive myself. I stiffened as Landon's face flashed across my mind. We had just reconciled with each other, and although I was still afraid to place my trust in him again, I still wanted to try.

Yami walked up beside me and bumped my shoulder. I turned towards her. She was dressed in a tight, black, leather suit that showed off her body. The zipper was purposely left down over her breasts, giving the world a teasing glimpse of her cleavage. On her feet were black combat boots. Despite how much the female demon annoyed me, I had to admit that she looked fucking sexy and badass. I suddenly felt underdressed as I looked down at my jeans, t-shirt, sneakers and my guild cloak.

"What's up?" I asked.

Yami didn't miss a beat.

"I plan on going after Gabriel as soon as we get there. He is my first priority. If you try and stop me, Arlen, there will be consequences."

I narrowed my eyes at her as Shiro let out a warning growl at Yami's threat. I bit my tongue and put a cap on the rising anger I was feeling. I should have expected something like this. Of course, Yami cared about Gabriel more than she cared about anyone else from the Shadow Realm. I was a hundred percent positive that she loved him more than she loved anyone else in the world, including herself. I should be happy that I'd convinced her to leave him in the first place so we could regain our strength.

"Fine," I snapped, "But as soon as he's safe, you better come back and help the rest of us. If you don't, Yami, I will kill you myself. You already know what I'm capable of."

For a second, I saw fear flash in her red eyes. When she didn't say anything else, I turned towards Xander who was standing in the living room, watching our exchange with wide eyes.

"Let's go," I said as I headed towards the door.

"Wait!" a feminine voice cried. I turned around, watching as Xander's wife wrapped herself around him, followed by his two children.

"Please come back to us, Xander. I love you."

Turning away from them, I opened the door and stepped out into the yard. Since it was dark, no one would be able to see me, especially since I was dressed in dark colors. Yami followed closely behind me. A few moments later, Xander joined us holding his large bow and arrows.

"Let's go kill this son of a bitch!" he hissed.

With a nod, we all piled onto Yami's carpet and took off into the night.

-*-*-*-*-

The first thing we all noticed was the new barrier that surrounded the Lord's manor. One look told me that it was a strong barrier. Yami lowered the carpet to the ground and the four of us hopped off of it. Shiro quickly made her way onto my shoulder.

"Mummy, what is that blue sphere covering the building? It wasn't there when we escaped."

"It's a barrier," I answered aloud. Yami and Xander both gave me strange looks before turning back towards our current problem.
