Ch. 27
Arlen
Prince Landon Nox stood there beside his father, still looking as handsome as he did back then. He hadn't changed a bit. Suddenly all eyes were on me, and my ears twitched as extreme frustration and embarrassment washed over me. Why in the world is he here and why the hell is he speaking to me?!
I remained silent, gritting my teeth to keep myself from cursing him to hell. Doing that in front of everyone would not look good. I could feel the pain from before coming back, and sadly, it hurt just as bad as it did then. My heart felt like it was being squeezed. I clenched my fists as I forced myself to glare at the ground. Why?! That question played like a broken record over and over in my head. The answer to that question continued to elude me.
"You know that elf there?" Landon' father, King Julian Nox, asked.
Landon's gleeful expression changed at the sound of his father's stern voice.
"Y-Yes," he stuttered as he quickly regained his composure, "He was the companion I was with when I was attacked by the she-dragon, he saved me."
My mind instantly flashed back to that attack. As hard as I worked to banish him from my memory, here he was, bringing it all back to the surface.
"Is that right?" he father hummed, "I had no idea you were so close with a commoner. Arlen, I thank you for saving my son and being his friend."
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Despite how I may be feeling at the moment, I was still in the presence of the Royal family. I couldn't, I wouldn't embarrass my guildmates. With all the strength I had, I put on a bright smile and turned towards Landon. Though my face showed one emotion, I made sure my eyes spoke what I was truly feeling.
"It was no problem."
Landon took the opportunity.
"We should catch up some time; we haven't spoken since that day at the beach. Father, if you will allow it, I would like to accompany Arlen and his guildmates to the Land of Dragons. I think it will be a good learning experience."
I had to bite my tongue to keep myself from lashing out at the prince in front of his parents. No! Hell no! I could feel my nails cutting into my flesh as I held myself back. Why was he doing this? Did he only want to torment me more? Wasn't that day at the beach enough?! Perhaps he's still angry about what I said to him. Of course, he was, he was a royal, and he'd most likely never been rejected by a commoner such as myself. As much as I tried to forget it, I could still remember word for word what he said to me that day. I prayed that his father would reject his idea. I didn't want him coming with us.
I flinched as a pair of cool hands grabbed my clenched fist. I looked up, seeing Link's concerned expression. Of course, he would see right through me.
"That's not a bad idea."
It was the queen this time. Her voice was soft and very kind.
"I think it would be a good idea for Landon to gain as much experience he possibly can. Landon should go."
I leaned into Link's side. I shouldn't be surprised things didn't go in my favor, today seemed to be my unlucky day.
"Then it's settled!" the King declared as he clapped his hands, "I will arrange for your luggage to be prepared, you should accompany your friend to the docks. Gabriel, I have faith that you will successfully complete your mission and come back with good news."
Gabriel nodded, "Yes, your majesty."
"Arlen," I glanced up at the sound of my name, "Please take good care of my son, please."
