Shownu's Point of View

I didn't have a home. I had sold the house when my father got sick so he could have the treatment he needed. I stayed in my father's hospital room.

When I went back to the hospital, I was greeted more warmly than usual. A doctor was in my father's room when I pushed the door open.

"Ahh, Mr. Son. You have returned. I am sorry to inform you that your fathers condition is getting worse. We cannot perform the surgery necessary to save him unless you can pay us, as it is a very expensive operation that we can't afford to do for free. He has until tomorrow tops. After that we will be unable to save him," the Doctor said. He patted my shoulder and left the room. I sat heavily in the chair next to my father's bed. I grabbed his frail hand and held it lightly. He was still unconscious, like he had been yesterday and the day before. The way he had been for three years.

I sighed and stood up. I gave my father a last look before leaving the hospital. There was only one way I was going to be able to get all the money so quickly, and only one person could help me.

I wandered through the streets towards Jooheon's usual hang out spot when he was alone and expected to ve that way for a while. Like I had hoped, he was sitting on the roof of his old home. It had burned down when he was five, but he kept it pretty clean on the inside and he was here most of the time. His parents had died in that fire, and my guess was that he stayed here to remember them.

"Jooheon," I called. He looked down to me and smiled before jumping from the roof like he always did.

"Hey Shownu. What brings you here today," he asked.

I took a deep breath. "My father is getting worse, and I can't afford the operation to save him. I know you always manage to find a way to get things done so I was wondering if you would help me. I know you are against us doing these things, but I can't think of anything else. Please," I pleaded. He sighed and looked into the burned out doorway to his crumbling house.

"Okay. Meet me in the alleyway near the antique store in ten minutes. They have lots of money and they won't be to bad off if we rob them and take the money you need," he told me. I nodded eagerly and gave him a big hug.

"Thank you so much," I said to him.

He gave me a look I couldn't decipher. "Don't ever thank me for helping you do something illegal. I only do this stuff when I absolutely have to," he told me. I nodded, realizing he was right, and walked away.

Ten minutes later, he walked into the alleyway with a black duffel bag. He looked around before handing it to me. I opened it and saw some pistols and face masks. I put one of the masks on and grabbed a pistol, putting it in safety. I had no intention of harming anyone. My father wouldn't like that. I wrapped the gun in a paper bag with it held in my bag and Jooheon copied my actions.

I looked into the street. No one was in the streets that I could see. I put my head back in the alley and nodded at Jooheon. He was frowning under his mask, I could tell from the look in his eyes.

I walked quickly into the antique store with the duffel bag opened in my hand, Jooheon following. I poured the gun at the counter worker and told them to put all the money in the cash register into the bag. They nodded and did as I told them. I zipped the bag closed and gave the counter worker a thumbs up with the hand that didn't have the gun. I slung the duffel bag over my shoulder and jogged out of the store.

Jooheon was jogging off in what liked like a random direction to me. He knew where he was headed though. I followed him and he eventually ducked into another burned down house. I followed him as he sat down heavily and took off the mask, throwing it and the gun into a corner. I did the same with my mask and gun as Jooheon ran a hand through his hair.

"You have the money now. You better wait a few hours to go back to the hospital or you might get caught. Of course if you wait they might hear news of the robbery and get suspicious. No, better to wait, just in case. Never ask me to do this with you or for you again Shownu," Johnson said. I nodded.

"I won't. Trust me, I was terrified the whole time. I'm not doing that again anytime soon if I can avoid it," I told him. He nodded and stood up, grabbing the masks and guns and jumping through a window on the back wall and leaving me alone in the house.

I waited until the sun was starting to set before going back to the hospital. I saw smoke and a red glow a few streets down but I ignored it. My foot hit something that skittered off against the rocks. I bent and picked it up. It was a silver box lighter. I put it in my pocket and walked into the hospital.

The doctor was waiting outside my father's room, the door open. He saw me coming and bowed.

"Showing, I am very sorry. We thought he would last longer. Your father died of internal bleeding a few hours ago," the doctor told me. "His belongings are on the bed."

A choked sob left my throat and I stumbled into the room. His clothes were folded in a neat pile in the middle of the bed. I took a blue flower from my pocket. One of Hyungwon's. He gave one to all of us a while ago, and I was pretty sure I was the only one that still had mine.

I set the flower on top of the pile and unzipped the bag of money. I poured it out onto the bed. All that effort gone to waste. I made Jooheon commit yet another crime for nothing. Angry tears and sad tears alike fell from my eyes as I set the bed sheets on fire, staying long enough to see the first of the money catch on fire before leaving.

I ran to Jooheon's place sobbing. He pulled me into a hug when he saw my tears.

"I'm sorry I wasted your time and added another crime to the list of things you've done for nothing. He died before I got there, Jooheon. What am I going to do now," I sobbed to him.

"Hey now, it's fine. You can stay here with me. I have something I want us all to do tomorrow anyways. Just stay here, everything will turn out fine," he comforted me. I nodded and he made a pallet for me to sleep on. I passed out almost as soon as my head hit the thin pillow. I murmured a quiet "thank you," to Jooheon before I fully went to sleep.
