A Zombie's Heart

Chapter 13

      Once were all in the truck, I realize something. "Guys, wheres Addi?" 

     She hadn't followed us. Jin runs back to the park, and about ten minutes later, he comes back holding Addi in his arms. She's clutching her side. 

     "Oh my gosh! What happened?" I ask. 

     "She was shot. By Adam. Im going to kill that a**hole!"

      "We dont have time! We have to get her to the hospital fast!" 

     "But its swarmed with zombies, we cant go back." 

     "DOES IT LOOK LIKE WE HAVE A CHOICE JIN!?"

      He looks at addi, whos hands and shirt are covered with blood. 

     She looks up at him. "Please Jin." 

     He nods and Suga starts the truck and begins driving. Addis phone starts to ring so I answer, surprised by who's on the other line. 

     "Karissa!? Youre alive!?" I say.

     "Yeah, and we found connection! Oh joonie and jimin are alive too. And kayla." 

     "How!? Wait nevermind, tell us later, we're on our way to the hospital. Addi was shot." 

      "Oh, well can we get a ride? We're at the gas station." 

     I hear loud noises in the background. "Karissa?" 

     "CELESTE! PLEASE COME GET US! THERE'S ZOMBIES! THEY'RE COMING AND WE DON'T HAVE WEAPONS! HURRY!" 

     The phone cuts off and then there's no connection. 

      "Yoongi," I say, "Drop us off at the hospital. You need to hurry and get everyone at the gas station quick."

       Yoongi nods and stops at the hospital entrance. Me, Abbi, and jin, who's holding addi, get out. 

      Taehyung gets out too and I turn and stop him. "Not you. You need to go with Yoongi to help." 

      "But I want to come with you." 

      "Sorry Tae." I have to break his heart now, but its the last thing I want to do. "I dont want you to come. You are a distraction and we- I, need to focus. So just go." 

     " But, I thought we had something. What about he kiss?" 

      Abbi looks over at us, but I continue looking into Taehyungs eyes. 

      "What kiss?" Abbi asks. 

      Ignoring her, I say "Taehyung, that kiss meant nothing to me. We will never have something. So please, just go." 

     We turn to run to the doors. I will never forget the look of hurt and betrayal on Taehyungs face. I fight back tears as we run down the halls to a room, locking the door as zombies bang on it. Jin takes Addis shirt off as I grab a towel and Abbi grabs stitches and other medical supplies. We clean the wound and abbi fixes it up. After its wrapped, she's still too weak from the loss of blood. Jin picks her up and I point a gun at the door, ready to shoot at any zombies. Abbi opens the door and I start to shoot at the heads of each one. We get out of the hospital and find an abandoned car in the back. We get in, Jin in the drivers seat. Luckily the previous owner had left the keys in the vehicle. We drive to the gas station, but nobody is there, only the bodies of freshly killed zombies. We try getting ahold of Yoongi and Karissa, but neither of them answer their phones. A few minutes later, Jin's phone starts ringing. He answers it, talking to whoever he's on the phone with for only a short time.

      He hangs up. "That was Yoongi. They picked up Kayla, Karissa, Namjoon, Jimin, and one more person. They were in trouble and he said not to worry about them and just drive to San Fransisco. They'll meet us there."

      On the road, all I can think about is Taehyung. I wish I never said what I did. what was I thinking? I close my eyes, fighting back tears and eventually, I fall asleep.
