A Zombie's Heart

Chapter 6

     I wake up in the morning with the sun in my eyes. I sit up and look around. The nobody's here so I walk outside and realize that everyone's gone. "Guys!?" It's silent. I start walking around but nobody's here. I climb onto the top of the truck to get a better view. Theres no sign of them anywhere. I sit down and cover my head, burying my face in my knees. I think about everything that could've happened to them. 

     I hear an all too familiar voice. "Celeste! What the heck are you doing up there, meditating!?" I look down and see all five of them walking in a group back to camp. I sigh with relief and jump down and run to hug Abbi and addi. 

     "Where were you guys!? I was scared to death!" 

     "We just went on a walk," Says Addi. 

      "Oh...well, you could've woke me up to go with you or at least let me know you were leaving me behind."

      Abbi shyly laughs. "Well, you were having another rough night. You were sweaty and saying something again. We figured we would just let you sleep." I nod and hug them again. I catch Taehyung staring at me again, but he quickly looks away.

      "Achim meogja!" Yells Jin and he walks over to the cooler. Addi starts laughing really hard and follows him.

     I turn to Abbi. "Should we tell her he didn't even say anything funny?" We look over at her as she follows Jin around. 

     "Nah." We say in sync. I sit next to Abbi and enjoy the pancakes that Jin and addi prepared. 

     "So Abbi, tell me, how are things with Yoongi?" 

     She takes a bite of her food. "Oh yeah, we're boyfriend and girlfriend now," she says casually. 

     "WHAT!?" Everyone in camp looks at me before continuing talking to each other. "Why didn't you tell me?" 

     She shrugs her shoulders. "We don't like to make a big deal about it. Oh and you should know, addi and Jin are a thing too since yesterday. It's just you and Taehyung that are single now." She gets up and walks away. Addi and Jin go to take another walk and Yoongi is napping in the tent. 

     I get up to take care of my dish but Taehyung stops me. "I can take care of that for you."

      I push past him. "No thanks." 

     "Hey" he puts his hand on my shoulder and I quickly turn and punch him in the stomach. 

     "I TOLD YOU I DONT NEED HELP!! LEAVE ME ALONE!!!" I see his eyes start to tear up. I drop my plate and run into the forest. I stop and see addi and Jin kissing behind a bush so I start running in the other direction. I run until my legs are tired and so I stop by a small waterfall. I take a seat on a large rock and my eyes burn. 

     Minutes later Abbi runs up to me, out of breath. "Celeste! What the heck was that all about! He was just trying to be helpful and nice! Why can't you just accept it for once!? Why can't you like him!? I don't understand why you hate him so much!" 

     For the first time in months I actually start to cry. "That's just it! I don't hate him! I actually really like him! I just...I can't risk falling in love again. I'm not ready. What happens if we become a couple and I have to watch someone I love get killed yet again. I can't do it Abbi! I'm trying not to like him because I don't want to experience that again! Its hard for me to resist his good looks, his soothing voice....but I have to. I have to Abbi!" I drop my head and cry some more. 

     Abbi sits by me and wraps me in a hug. "I'm sorry Celeste, I didn't know. It's okay. We won't push you anymore." I wipe away my tears. "Come on Celeste. Let's go back to camp. I'm sure addi and Jin are done with their "walk" by now." I let out a small laugh and Abbi looks at me surprised. "Whoa! You still know how to do that!?" I roll my eyes and she helps me up and we both laugh. We make our way back to the campsite.
