A Zombie's Heart

Chapter 11

     My head jerks up. I look around, everything is so still since everyone is still asleep. Its got to be around three in the morning. I shake Taehyungs arm to wake him up. 

     "Taehyung, wake up. I think I heard something." 

     "What was it?" He asks still half asleep.

      "I'm not sure. Theres someone here though. I'm hoping it's just Addi getting a drink." 

     I look over at her sleeping bag and she isn't there. I turn my head to Jins sleeping bag and find her as she rolls onto her back and snores in Jins ear. Jins head pops up and he looks at her before rolling onto his side away from her. Suddenly theres a loud thud coming from the hallway. I look at Taehyung who is now sitting up, looking at me with an alert expression. We both get up and walk to the door. I peer into the hallway, but no one is there. I glance at Yoongi, Jin, Abbi and Addi who are all still sleeping soundly. Theres another loud thud in the distance that makes me jump. Tahyung takes my hand and we quietly walk down each hallway, no luck finding anything. We go to the basement of the school to continue the search. After several minutes of walking without seeing anything, we turn to go back up the stairs. There, we run into a small group of zombies.

      "Celeste! Run!" Taehyung shouts at me. 

     We started running in the other direction. We find a small hiding place between some boxes and the concrete wall. Theres a sudden silence except for the sound of water dripping from a pipe. Then all of a sudden, theres an ax smashing the boxes. The zombies found us. We get out of the way, but then the ax hits Taehyungs shoulder. He lets out a yelp from the pain and I see the blood starting to stain his sleeve. He takes my hand and moves me out of the way right as the ax comes back down. We run until we reach a dead end where we find ourselves trapped between a wall and and a group of armed zombies. One has a gun held to Taehyungs head, and another is pressing a dagger to my throat. I feel a small sting and wince as the blade cuts into my skin. I close my eyes. This is it. I've wanted so badly to die for last few months, so why is it the last thing I want now? Im not ready to die, but here I am. I hear the sound of the weapons dropping and open my eyes to see Addi bashing off the head of one the zombies. The other three rush in moments later and started shooting each zombie in the head, killing them off one by one. I see Taehyung on the ground holding his shoulder tightly. I get down next to him and pull down the collar of his shirt, exposing the wound. Its deeper than I thought. 

     I help him up and Abbi looks over at me as she continues shooting. "Hey, were running out of bullets! Get to the truck now!" 

     Addi beheads another zombie. "Celeste, when we get out of here, im going to kill you!" 

     Me and Taehyung run up the stairs and get out the doors. We reach the truck and anxiously wait for everyone to come out. When they do, Addi comes up to me and punches me in the mouth. I can taste the metallic blood. 

     "Oh my gosh!" she says, "I'm so sorry Celeste! Its just, I hate you right now, but im relieved that youre alive. What were you thinking!? You didnt take any weapons or anything!" 

     Abbi joins us. "Yeah, and you could've at least woke us up! We couldve died too if Jin werent so loud!" 

     "Guys, I'm sorry," I say, "I didnt know what the noises were that I heard so we went to look. I didnt even think about taking weapons, especially at three in the morning! We didnt know that there were zombies."

      Addi looks at Taehyung. "Is he okay?" 

     I look over as he still clutches his bleeding shoulder."I don't think so. We need to find a hospital."

      We get in the truck and Suga drives this time. On our way to the hospital, its quiet. I decided to break the silence.

      "So, why was Jin so loud? And how did Addi find us?" 

     Addi shrugs and Abbi turns to look at me. "He kicked her out. I guess she was snoring too loud for him."

      "I was not...hes mad at me..." She climbs to the backseat and sits on his lap. "I'm sowy jin. Can you pwease forgive me?" 

     She wraps her arms around him and lays her head on his chest. He smiles and strokes her hair and kisses her forehead. 

     "Eeeew! Would you stop the sappy stuff? Im going to throw up!" Abbi says while looking out the window. 

     We all laugh except for Jin and addi. We get to the hospital and run inside. Addi and Jin find a vending machine and start beating it with a bat to get food. Yoongi, Abbi, Tae, and I find a room. Yoongi searches for the needle and stitch thread. Taehyung takes a seat nervously. 

     "Take your shirt off." Says Yoongi as he threads the needle. 

     He does as he's told. His whole arm and torso is covered in blood. I find a towel and get it wet and clean off all the blood. I set the towel in a sink and sit next to him and take his hand. 

     Yoongi stands by him and looks over the wound. "Okay, this is going to hurt. A lot. Try to stay calm." 

     Taehyung nods and closes his eyes. Suga starts stitching up the wound. Tae would squeeze my hand when he was in pain, but I didn't mind. When he was done, Yoongi wrapped it.

      He looked at me while holding another needle and thread. "Your turn celeste. Your cut needs to be stitched before it gets any worse." 

     "What!?" I was so focused on Tae and the zombies, that I hadn't realized the pain I was in from my back, but now, the pain was throbbing. 

     Abbi grabs my arm and sits me down. They force me to take off my shirt so they can get the bandage off. The pain was so immense, and it felt like forever before they finished stitching and wrapped the bandage back around me. 

     Abbi puts the extra wrap in a drawer. "You and Tae need to be more careful around zombies with weapons." 

     "Easy for you to say. You and addi walk away with just a few bruises and that's it." 

     Abbi laughs. "Well we actually bring weapons." 

     I put on my shirt and stand up. "Im going to find a restroom to wash up before we get back on the road."
