A Zombie's Heart

Chapter 28

 One by one we all get treated. We walk to the room where Hoseok is resting. He opens his eyes slowly, and when he sees us he smiles and sits up. 

The doctor comes into the room. "You all should heal up a lot quicker now. But I'm not saying whoever helped you before didn't do an alright job though." 

He turns to leave the room but Addi quickly stops him. "Wait! Thank you a much! What's your name?" 

He turns and smiles at her. "I'm Nate. Nate Sumsion. And what's your name?"

 Addi blushes. "Addison. But everyone calls me Addi. Um, are you single? Er... I mean like are you alone? Because if not, you can join us." 

Nate looks at us and smiles. "If you all don't mind, I would love to join you." 

We all nod, indicating that we want him with us. He grabs a duffle bag of first aid things and we all pile into the car. Addi sits on Nate's lap and flirts with him the entire time. After hours of non stop driving, we finally reach the bridge but no one else is here. We get out and walk around and then we hear the sound of the truck approaching. We look in the direction and see Jimin standing in the bed holding a gun, shouting something at us. We realize he's telling us to get in the car and drive. I notice another huge group of zombies quickly making their way towards us. We run to the car and get in as Jungkook starts driving. I can hear the sound of Jimins gun firing at the zombies. We drive as fast as possible down the highway without any stopping. We stop at a gas station a couple hours later. Jungkook tells us to stay in the car while he fills up the tank with gas. Minutes later, we're back on the road. I fall asleep after a long time.

We get out at a hotel and I run to the truck to greet Taehyung. Everyone gets out, except for him. 

"Jin," I say, "Where's Taehyung?" 

He glances back at the truck and then his eyes go wide. Every bad thought races through my mind. What if he died, what if he was taken by the zombies...or Kyra. My eyes water. 

"I forgot, he went inside the gas station to go to the restroom," says Jin as he smacks his forehead with his hand.

 "HOW COULD YOU FORGET ABOUT HIM!?" I yell. 

"My mind was so focused on the zombies, I didn't even think of him." 

"No one in the vehicle did!? We have to go back!" 

Kayla steps forward shaking her head. "There's no point. He's as good as dead Celeste." 

I smack Kayla hard. "We're going back for him! Jungkook, you're coming with me. The rest of you go inside the hotel!" 

Me and Jungkook get in the truck and make our way back to the station. I let out a deep breath and Jungkook glances at me then focuses back on the road.

 "You alright?" 

I shake my head and stare out the window. "I'm just so worried and stressed. I knew we should've gone in the same vehicle. All of this would've been prevented." 

"I'm sorry Celeste. I blame myself honestly. I'm worried for him too. I just hope he's okay." 

"Jungkook, it's not your fault. You didn't know..." 

The rest of the trip is silent between us. A couple hours later, we arrive. I sit in the truck while Jungkook walks to the building and slowly peers in. He runs to the truck and shuts the door after getting in. "There's a small group of them. They're surrounding the door and Taehyung is in there. I know it. If the zombies didn't smell his flesh, they would be walking around, clueless." I nod and reach in the back seat and grab a pistol and dagger. "Celeste, what are you doing? I don't think this is such a good idea. All the zombies against two of us?" 

I open the door and step out. "We have to try. I can't lose him." 

I make my way to the doors and I turn to see Jungkook getting out of the truck with more weapons. I slowly creep into the building, hiding behind one of the aisles. Jungkook follows quietly. As expected, there's a small group of about six or seven zombies surrounding the bathroom door, trying to get in.

 "We cant just run up to them." whispers Jungkook. I nod. I look at the items on one of the shelves and pick up one of the sets of cards. "What are you going to do Celeste? Play fifty two card pick up with them?" 

I look at him and then take out the stack of cards. I chuck the stack at the doors, causing noise to distract the zombies. "Go," I whisper to Jungkook and point behind him. We quickly walk around the corner as the zombies stumble over to the doors. 

"Ready?" He asks.

 I let out a deep breath and nod. We run to the zombies from behind and start taking them down. As Jungkook shoots one in the head, another one comes from behind. I use my dagger and stab the zombies in the back of the head. I yank it down and the zombie falls. 

"Go get Taehyung!" Shouts Jungkook as he shoots another one in the head. I turn and run to the bathroom door. 

"Taehyung! Open up! Its me!" I hear the click of the door unlocking and the door slowly opens. I gasp when I see him. He has a long scratch across his forehead that's deep. Blood drips down from it. He hugs me tightly when he sees me. 

I bury my face in his shoulder. "I'm so glad you're okay! I was so worried!" He kisses the top of my head. 

"Hey! If you guys are done with your moment, we gotta go!" Jungkook yells as he fights off the zombies.

 Taehyung grabs my hand and we run out the door along with Jungkook. We get in the car and I sit in the backseat with Taehyung. I reach under the seat and grab a first aid kit and pull out the cleaning alcohol and a cotton ball.

 I gently dab his cut. "Tae, how did this happen?" 

"It was just a knife thrown at me." "The zombies can throw knives?" 

He shakes his head. "No, someone was with them."

 There's no way it could've been Kyra. I'm starting to think that there's a team of people working together on the zombies side. Adam, Kiersten, Kyra, and now someone else. I take a deep breath and sit back in my seat. Taehyung puts his arm around me and kisses me lightly. I smile at him and wrap my arms around him and stay like that until we get to the hotel. He helps me out of the truck and the three of us walk to the lobby where we're met by everyone else. We get the keys to our rooms. Yoongi, Abbi, Taehyung and I share a room. Addi, Jin, Jungkook, and Nate share another. Jimin, Namjoon, Kayla, Karissa, and Hoseok share the last one. I hop in the shower after everyone else.When I get out, the other three are already asleep in the two beds. I lay next to Taehyung and listen as he draws each slow breath, then I fall asleep.
