A Zombie's Heart

Chapter 14

I open my eyes after a few hours. I think we're in Sacramento. It doesnt look the same. What used to be green forests of trees, is now burnt down and dead. Jin pulls over on the side of the road. 

"We're going to stop here for the night. We'll go the rest of the way in the morning." 

"Seriously? I just woke up! Abbi can't you drive?" I say.

"No. Im so tired. You drive." 

"But I- fine." 

Jin gets in the backseat and lays next to Addi. 

"Ew."

 I climb to the front and start the car. I take a deep breath and press the gas pedal. The car jerks forward and I slam on the brakes. Abbi hits her head on the dashboard. 

"OW! Just wait til morning would you?" She rubs her forehead.

"Sorry, Im nervous." I look at the road at gently press the gas pedal.

 The car slowly goes forward. I soon get the hang of it and turn on the GPS. A few hours later, we make it to San Fransisco. I drive around but see no sign of them. They must not be here yet. I park by the boardwalk and turn the car off. Soon, I fall back asleep.

When I wake up I look out the window as the truck pulls over on the other side of the street. I quickly get up and open the door. As soon as I see Taehyung get out of the car I run over to him. I hug him tightly, but he just stands there. 

"Tae, I'm so happy you're okay! I was so worried about you! You have no idea how relieved I am!" 

I pull away and look up at him. He's looking at me but he doesn't smile or anything. He must still be upset with what I told him yesterday. 

"Look, Taehyung, about what I said yesterday, I-" 

A new girl comes out of the car and goes up to him. "Tae Tae, why didn't you wake me up babe? Who's this?" 

"You know who I am Kiersten." I growl

Taehyung looks from me to her. "You know each other?" 

Kiersten glares at me. "Kind of." Abbi gets out of the car and runs over to kiss Yoongi. She comes over to us. 

"Kiersten?" she hugs her. "I didnt know you were alive!" 

"Yep, I'm alive! And Tae Tae is my boyfriend!" 

Abbi looks over at me with a concerned expression. "Oh..."

 I look at the ground. That evening, we get to a hotel and find the keys to the rooms. We decide to only use two rooms, one for the guys, one for the girls. As everyone starts walking to the rooms I stop. "Hey, Im going to walk to the store. Its right down the road. Anyone want to come?" 

Taehyung looks at me and then at Kiersten. 

Addi limps over to me. "Good luck. We're going to the pool. Most of us will swim. I cant though, because im hurt badly. So I'll just sit in the hot tub. Don't forget a weapon this time" 

"Okay..." 

They all turn to go to the pool, leaving me in the lobby.

I get back and check the pool, but nobody's there. They must have gotten tired and went to bed. I find my room number and use the key to get in. I walk in to find Taehyung sitting on one of the beds, shirtless. 

"Oh, um Taehyung, this is the girls room."

 Kiersten walks out of the bathroom, her hair wrapped in a towel. "Oh hey, youre back. I hope you don't mind. I just needed to check his poor wound." She sits behind him on the bed and places her hands gently on his shoulders. "Is it doing better?" 

He nods and she wraps her arms around him, resting her head on his back. 

"Okay...wheres everyone else?" 

"They're in my hotel room with the other guys," says Tae. 

"Yeah, I'll just go see how theyre doing." I walk out of the room and go to the lobby.

 I sit down and cry. Taehyung was the only reason I didnt want to kill myself. Now I dont have him anymore. I stand up and walk out the front doors.
