A Zombie's Heart

Chapter 29

I wake up later than everyone else the following morning. Everybody is in the lobby talking, except for Addi and Nate who aren't there. I sit on one of the couches, next to Taehyung. 

"How did you sleep?" he asks. 

"I slept okay. Better than I did in the last hotel. This one doesn't have a dead carcass in the bathroom making me uncomfortable." He laughs. 

"Lucky!" Says Kayla. 

"Wait, there was one in your room?" I ask. 

"No. There were two. I tripped over one that was on the ground in the middle of the night. It was so dark." 

"That was me." says Hoseok. "And it really hurt by the way." 

Everyone in the room laughs. I look over at Jin who looks bothered by something. 

"Jin, where's Addi?" 

He shrugs. "I don't know. Her and Nate left somewhere early this morning. They never said where they were going." 

He gets up and walks back to his room without saying another word. I head back to my room a little while later. Taehyung follows. We lay next to each other on the bed in silence and my eyes start to get heavy. There's a gentle knock on the door and I get up to answer it. I'm surprised to see Jin standing there. 

"Hey Celeste, I hope I'm not interrupting anything...can you come on a walk with me?" 

"Uh, sure. I'll meet you in lobby in a couple minutes." He nods and starts walking away. I turn to Taehyung who's sitting up now. "Sorry Tae. I gotta go..." 

"I know." He smiles at me then stands and walks over to me. "Be safe. And bring a weapon." He hands me a fully loaded pistol. He kisses me before I walk down to the lobby where Jin is waiting.

"So, you just needed a friend to walk with? I figured you needed to talk to someone." I say after ten minutes of walking without a word said. 

"I do need to talk actually..." 

"Okay...about what?" 

He sighs. "Addi and Nate. I don't want to cause drama but...I just feel like I don't exist to Addi anymore." 

"What do you mean?" 

"Well, they were talking all night. She kept telling him that she's always been fascinated by doctors. Um, oh yeah and when she thought I had fell asleep, she left to lay next to him on the other bed. I couldn't sleep with all their talking. I don't understand how Jungkook was able to, he was closer than I was." 

"Jin, are you jealous?" 

He looks shocked. "No! I just think she likes him more. Maybe it's because he's younger...but the guy has pink hair! A doctor with pink hair!" I laugh a little. He continues. "I wish he wasn't with us... Can we feed him to zombies?" 

"I think it's important that we have a doctor with us Jin. But, if it ever comes down to us needing to sacrifice someone to the zombies, he'll be first." 

Jin smiles at that, but then it fades quickly. "Do you think she loves me still?" 

I nod. "Yeah. I think she's just excited to have a new friend is all...but I still think she loves you." 

Jin stops walking when we reach an alleyway. He looks down it and then back at me with an angry expression, and tears in his eyes. "Are you sure about that?" He turns around and quickly walks back in the direction that we came from. 

I turn my head to look down the alley to find Addi and Nate at the end of it making out.

I quickly make my way back to the hotel on my own. Namjoon and Karissa are in the lobby. 

"Hey, did Jin come through?" 

Karissa nods. "Yeah. And he looked really mad. What did you do?" 

"It wasn't me. It was Addi...and Nate." 

"Oh yeah. I was texting Addi last night telling me that shes in love with Nate. I got so mad at her, but she has her heart set on him now." 

I sigh and walk back to my room. There's a note on the bed. 

"Hey Celeste, me and the others left for a few hours. We'll be back tonight. Love you! 

~Tae" 

I set the note on the side table and lay down on the bed. I don't fall asleep, but I lay there as its silent.
