Monday morning was a blur. I hadn't spoken a word for the rest of the weekend and my mum and Chaz were starting to get worried. I have been told over and over that I'm overreacting but no one knows why.
Noah had been on his best behaviour as mum had told him that I was 'sick'. Mum made me get up for school though so here I am, sitting in English next to Chaz.
"What is she going on about?", he asked me. He obviously meant the teacher.
I shrugged but didn't say a word. I just stared into space.
"You still not talking? That's pathetic.", he said and started reading out loud what the teacher was writing on the board.
He was pulling confused looks and kept looking over at me. When he realised I wasn't going to tell him to shut up he sighed.
"Come on. You can't stop talking forever no matter what it's over!?', he pleaded with me.
I just shrugged again. I couldn't stop thinking about Jessicah. I knew it wasn't any of my business but I really wanted to tell her about Noah and how having a kid is actually not as bad as it seems. She was right though, I didn't know the reasons she was there. I really had no right to try and stop her.
"Maths. I can't wait till maths.", I said out of nowhere.
Chaz pulled a puzzled expression. "Okay then. You don't speak for two days but when you finally do you want to do maths? I give up.", he complained and rolled his eyes.
I turned to look at him. "You don't understand. If Jessicah isn't in maths i will die.", I told him and my face was serious.
He just laughed. "Okay. That explains why you want to go to maths. Tell me how that works out for you.", he said and patted me on the shoulder.
"It was so sad. So, so sad. Chaz, if she's not there I will know for sure!", I yelled at him and grabbed him by the shoulder.
He looked scared. "You're scaring me man. What's going on?", he asked and removed my hands from his shoulders.
I shook my head. "LIFE'S NOT FAIR!", I yelled and and stood up, leaning on my table.
Chaz bit his lip as the teacher appeared behind me.
"Mr Bieber. Don't you have a life? You seem to love detentions.", she said and crossed her arms.
I turned around slowly. "No, I don't have a life. Especially with all the homework you set!", I yelled at her and the class just gasped.
She smiled. "That's funny. Because you never do the homework anyway.", she laughed and walked back to her desk as the class yelled 'owned!'.
She was writing out a green piece of paper. She ripped it off the note pad and handed it to me before sitting back down.
"What's this for?", I asked her reading the note.
She laughed. "Just take it to the principal. He'll explain.", she said and shooed me out the door.
I took one last glance at Chaz who was still biting his lip and picked up my bag and left. The hallways were completely empty. It was like a ghost town. So when I got to the office I was glad to be there with the company of someone else, no matter how unpleasant.
When I walked in the lady at the desk looked up at me. "Can I help you?", she asked.
I nodded and handed her the piece of paper.
She read it and her lips pressed into a tight line. "You can go in and see him.", she said and handed the note back.
I walked past her and she went back to typing. I opened the principals office door and stepped inside. He looked up at me and smiled.
I handed him the note and as he read it his smile dropped.
"Why Justin? You're not normally like this.", he said and looked up at me.
I shrugged but didn't say a word.
"You're not talking again? The note did say you weren't talking but then you disrupted the class.", he told me and I nodded.
He sighed. "What's going on Justin?", he asked and I just shrugged again.
He looked back down to the note. "If you won't talk to me, what about a counsellor?", he asked and picked up the phone.
Again, all I did was shrug. He dialled a number and when someone answered I just zoned out. Finally he must have hung up because he was trying to get my attention.
"Justin. JUSTIN!", yelled trying to bring me back down to earth.
I looked up at him.
He sighed. "Dr. Rogers will see you now.", he said and nodded towards the door.
I got up and left. I walked slowly over to the counsellor and the whole time I was thinking to myself. Why am I acting like this? Why have I let this bother me so much? Maybe I should just go back to class and act like nothing ever happened?
Before I could back out the door opened.
"I thought I heard someone. Come in Justin.", Dr. Rogers said and stood aside for me.
I took a seat on the couch and he came to sit across from me.
"So, what's going on Justin? Remember, you can tell me anything. I wont hold anything against you or tell you what your saying is stupid, because it isn't. Anything you say, stays between you and me.", he said and pulled out a note book.
I just stared at the note book. "It's so stupid. You'll never understand. It would take to long to explain.", I said to myself but her must have heard.
"We've got an hour. I'm sure i've heard it before.", he told me and smiled.
I nodded. "Well, it start's with someone called Noah. He's my s, s, son.", I said and fiddled with my fingers.
He just nodded. "I've heard that before. See, you're not the only one."
I looked up at him. "I know. That's not all though.", I said.
He lifted an eyebrow. "What's going on then?", he asked me.
I told him everything. Absolutely everything. It just felt nice to have someone listen to me. He sat there, not saying a word and when I was done, I was surprised to find myself crying.
"It's alright to cry Justin. You have been holding in these feelings for quite a long time.", he said and handed me a tissue.
I nodded and wiped the tears from my face. "Am I crazy?", I asked him and stared at my feet.
"Of course not. This is just a new subject for me. I have never heard anything like this. But you're defiantly not crazy.", he told me and pressed his lips in a tight line.
I nodded. "I'm going to fail year 12! I can't!", I yelled and threw my head back.
He just looked at me with a serious expression. "Here's a book that can help you.", he passed me a picture book, "Read this and it will help you control your stress and feelings."
I took the book and flipped through it. "How is a book going to help me?", I asked him and placed the book on my lap.
He just nodded towards the book. "Trust me. It will help. Don't worry Justin. Remember you're not crazy. You should probably go back to class now.", he said and looked up at the clock.
"Thank you.", I told him and put the book in my bag before leaving the room.
