Chapter seventeen. Brushes with the law.

Like I had promised Noah last night, I was taking him to the zoo today. I'm so glad that it's a nice day and not raining like it was yesterday. I had slept in today and was woken by Noah at 11am as mum decided that it was time I woke up. So I carried Noah down stairs to say good morning to mum.

"Morning mum."

She smiled as I put Noah down on the floor. "Good morning Justin. I thought I asked you to be home early enough last night to put Noah to bed?"

I sighed. "I had a long, busy, complicated night. So I'm sorry I was late and i'm sorry I completely ignored you when I walked in and went straight to bed."

Mum nodded. "It's fine. Care to explain what yoiu actually did last night?"

I creased my eyebrows. "Huh? I went to McDonalds for dinner and I met a friend there who was there for her little sisters birthday party. So I offered to stay and help out."

Mum laughed. "An you expect me to believe that?" She placed a plate of pancakes on the table with a chocolate milk.

"Yes I do expect you to believe that because that's the truth. And is that mine?" I asked and pointed to the plate she hasd just placed on the table.

Mum nodded. "Yes that's yours. Oh and remember you're taking Noah to the zoo today."

I poured some maple syrup on my pancakes and answered without looking up. "Yes I remember. I'll take him in half an hour and we can stop at McDonalds for lunch."

Mum rolled her eyes. "You had that for dinner last night and you're only eating breakfast now? You're not going to be hungry in half an hour."

I shrugged. "So?" I said with my mouth full.

Mum just sighed and walked out the kitchen. "Where did I go wrong with him?"

I laugehd and went back to eating but I didn't eat much before Noah came and started pulling on my leg.

"Daddy? Are we going to the zoo now?"

I swallowed my food before answering. "Soon. Now go get grandma to dress you."

Noah smiled happily and ran upstairs to mum who was most likely already getting his clothes out. I finished the rest of my pancakes and milk before running upstairs to get changed. I just shoved on some track pants and a shirt.

I looked at the time and but my lip. It's 12pm and mums going to be angry if I don't leave now. I put my phone and wallet in my pocket and ran into the lounge room where I found mum folding up laundry onto the couch and Noah on the mat in front of the tv.

"Guess what? I'm ready to go on time!" I yelled as i entered the room.

Mum laughed. "That's a change."

Noah giggled. "Can we go now!?"

I nodded and smiled. It's has been such a long time since Noah and I had done something together. "Yeah, we're going now."

Noah jumped up excitedly. "YAY! Bye grandma!"

I opened the front door and Noah ran outside to the car and pulled on the handle. I laughed and unlocked the car.

"I think I have to do your set belt up mister. You can't do that by yourself."

Noah sighed. "Yes I can."

I shook my head. "No you can't."

I clicked his seat belt into place and got into the drivers side. Before I started the car I had to text someone. I got out my phone and messaged Jacinta. I didn't even know why I was asking her this but I felt like I had to.
