I was 10 minutes earlier to Chaz's house than I had said but when I knocked on the door he  opened it and pulled me inside. I could tell his mum was home as I could smell her perfume a mile away.

"JUSTIN! You know how Jessicah is in Paris?" He held my wrist and  pulled me into the kitchen.

"Yeah I know that. You don't think I would remember something like that?" I rolled my eyes.

Chaz laughed. "Well she's not in Paris."

I creased my eyebrows in confusion. "Where is she then? She didn't tell me anything."

He stopped me just outside the back door. "She's in my backyard !"

He went to pull me outside but I stopped him. "Your backyard?"

He nodded. "She came to my house after trying yours. She said you weren't home so she came here. She didn't look very happy though."

How come girls are so confusing? I sighed and followed Chaz outside. I found Jessicah sitting next to the pool. Even though it is cold outside she had her legs in the water, watching as it rippled away from her across the water.

She didn't look up when we approached her even though she had noticed us.

"I can't believe you're back! How come you're back early and how come you didn't tell me?" I sat down beside her but crossed my legs so they didn't touch the water.

She shrugged but didn't look up at me. "I thought I'd surprise you guys and I did text you Justin. I told you that you'd be seeing me sooner than you think... remember?"

I had to think back but I couldn't remember so I pulled out my phone and went through my inbox. I couldn't believe it when I saw the text from Jessicah. It all came back to me. I had ignored her text when I was busy with Jacinta and I had forgotten to reply! I'm such a bad friend.

"Oh my gosh Jessicah i'm sorry. I completely forgot. I had a lot of things going on. A lot of things you wouldn't understand. I'll make it up to you, I promise!"

She laughed. "Oh I know you've been busy. And trust me I understand."

I was shocked. How did she know about Jacinta? "How did you know? Wait... what do you know?"

She frowned. "Well I know you've been hanging around with some girl instead of answering my texts."

I turned to Chaz and he shrugged. He obviously had no idea where she was going with this. "Chaz, why don't you go inside and get your mum to make us some cookies or something."

Chaz crossed his arms and shook his head. "I want to stay here."

I gave him a pleading look and he gave in. "Fine, i'll leave. Whatever. But I get the cookies!" He turned and stormed towards his door looking back at us only once.

I shook my head at his stupidity and turned back to Jessicah. "Her name is Jacinta and... wait how do you know about her?"

She smiled. "I saw you and 'Jacinta' at McDonalds as I drove through the drive through. It's okay, I'm happy for you."

Okay, now I  was even more confused. "Happy for me? I think you got the wrong story because what happened between us wasn't 'happy' at all."

She turned her head to look at me. She had a tear running down her cheek. "So you guys fight alot or something?"

I nodded. "Yeah we fight heaps. Well we have a lot of disagreements..."

Now she shook her head. "Why are you still with her then?" As she said this, she moved her finger around in the water causing a small whirlpool.

"I'm not. I made sure of it this morning." I was still assuming we were talking about Jacinta. I still don't know how she knew about everything but i'm just playing along.

She smiled. "So you broke up with her?"

I was about to nod but I realised what she said and what she meant all along. "No no no no no no no no no! I was never 'really' going out with her! Something did happen between me and her but it's not what you're thinking! I promise!" I placed my hand on her shoulder.

"What happened then? Today wasn't a date?" She took my hand and moved it off her shoulder.

I shook my head. "No. Definitely not a date. If you new the whole story, you would understand but it's a long story so I probably won't tell you."

She tilted her head in confusion. "Then tell me the short version then?"

I laughed and gave in. "Fine. The short version is that Jacinta heard me talking to Noah and she blackmailed me into doing things for her and one of those things was to be her 'boyfriend' for a week or two. Today I was just getting things straight with her but it's over now."

She listened to the whole thing with wide eyes and a shocked expression. Once I had finished, her shocked expression turned mad. "HOW DARE SHE!? I WANT TO TALK TO THIS GIRL! LET HER AT ME!"

I leaned back slightly as her out burst was so unexpected but once she finished, her hands were in fists.

"Jessicah! It's okay now. We sorted everything out. There's no need for you to get involved. Why are you so outraged at this anyway?" I stood up and brushed myself off before offering my hand to help her up.

She looked away and stood up by herself. "No reason... I just think it's mean for someone to take advantage of someone else like that. Isn't blackmail illegal anyway?"

I shrugged. "I don't think so. I doubt the police would have gotten involved in something as stupid as that."

"You never know unless you try Justin...," She cleared her throat, "How's Noah?"

I smiled. "He's good."

She frowned. "That's good."

I noticed she was still annoyed about the Jacinta thing and I sighed. "Lighten up a little. Everything is fine. Hey do you want to do something fun?"

She looked up at me and pulled a puzzled expression. "Um, yeah?"

I smiled and put my hand on her shoulder. "You said yes."

Before she could answer I pushed her sideways and she screamed as she disappeared under the water. I had just pushed her in the pool and I took a few steps back so I could run up and jump in too.

Just as she resurfaced above the water I ran and jumped in next to her, splashing her as I hit the water. I heard Jessicah scream and when I reappeared above the water she hit me across the head.

"JUSTIN!" She was laughing so I knew she found it funny.

I laughed too. "It's better to be happy than sad or mad right?"

She splashed me. "If being happy involves getting thrown into a pool when it's cold outside than I'm going to say let me think about that one..."

I splashed her back. "It's not that cold you chicken!"

She laughed. "Okay okay. The water seems to grow on me after a while... this is better than worrying about weather or not you have a girlfriend or not."

That made me stop. I couldn't touch the bottom of the pool so I just floated there. "What did you say?"

She shook her head. "Nothing..." After a nervous giggle she splashed me back.

I shrugged and decided to let it go. I don't know why but I've had a massive crush on her for ages and I think she might feel the same way but i'm not entirely sure so I'm just going to forget about it. I'm way too far into the friendzone now anyway.

"Justin i'm cold so can we go inside?" She begged as she snapped me out of my thoughts.

I nodded as I could feel goosebumps forming up my arms and legs. "Good idea."

We jumped out the pool and stood by the back door for someone to walk by and get us towels. It's funny how the smallest things can bring joy to a life of pain. Jessicah certainly is one of them... to me anyway.
