*Two years later*
-----------------------------------
"Noah. Time to wake up for school buddy." I said as I made my way over to the end of his bed and sat down on the end.
Noah's eyes flittered open and he yawned. "Good morning Daddy." He said and crawled over to hug me.
I chuckled as I took him into my arms and hugged him back. Within a minute he let go and jumped off the bed making a thud as his small feet hit the wooden floor. He turned to look at me and smiled showing off his beautiful smile. It is true that he looks like me and I can see it more and more as he grows older.
I cleared my throat. "Okay buddy. I'll give you 15minutes to get dressed into your uniform and to the kitchen table for breakfast."
He nodded and walked over to his wardrobe where I had hung up his uniform and placed his shoes underneath yesterday. He knows the routine and he knows how to get dressed and ready for school in the mornings... well he has been doing it for six months now.
I left his room pulling the door shut behind me. I made my way to the kitchen where Jessicah sat at the table, sipping her coffee, her hair in a mess
"Is he up?" She asked, her eyes looking up to meet mine. I nodded and sat next to her, grabbing her coffee and taking a sip."You good there?" She chuckled as I put the cup down and hugged her tightly, placing my lips on her cheek. She laughed loudly and pushed me off slightly, soon enough we heard the tiny footsteps running down the hall of our small house.
"DADDY I'M STUCK!" Noah whined as he ran over to my with his arm stuck in the tie around his neck, a cute little frown upon his lips
"Awh baby!" Jess pouted as she looked at me, I got up and walked over to him, crouching down to his level."How'd you manage that?" I laughed as I slid it over his head slowly.
"Well, I put my head in there, and my arm in there, and the-" He started but I cut him off.
"Hold still.." I chuckled as I tied the tie gently.
"Look at you two!" Jess said standing up slowly, my head turned to face her."Being all cute together."
"Dads not cute!" Noah added "He's a man!" I laughed and lifted him into my arms, standing up straight."Can men not be cute?" I asked as I walked him to the kitchen and sat him down on the bench.
"Only babies are cute!" Noah yelled in disagreement with a smile plastered across his lips.
"Well you're cute, aren't you?" I asked playfully as I went into the pantry for his cereal.
"Yeah!" He shouted proudly and tilted his head as he smiled.
"That means you're baby!" I yelled in a joking voice. He didn't like this very much.
"Nah!" Noah yelled and crossed his arms. This is a frequent argument that occurs in this house hold.
"Well then you aren't cute" I told him once again.
"No, I'm cute" Noah argued with a pout.
"But you said only babies are cute!" I looked over at Jessicah with a cheeky grin as I poured the cereal into the bowl. "What I ment was, only babies and Noah" I laughed as i slid the bowl of cereal next to him as he likes to eat it dry.
"Thank-you" He smiled before diving his small little hand into the bowl, stuffing a handful into his mouth and chewing loudly. I ruffled his hair and kissed his forehead, I was such a proud father.
"Daddy" He said with a mouth-full of dry cereal
"Noah" I replied
"Where do babies come fr-" I quickly covered his mouth "ask me that question in 10 years, okay buddy?" He nodded
"Yes sir"
I smiled proudly before putting away the cereal and grabbing him from the counter.
Dropping Noah off at school was always a challenge, although I loved watching him walk into the world of education with his bag on his back and his tin lunch box in his hand as he waved goodbye to me, I always felt like I was going to cry, he was growing up to fast.
As I pulled up outside of the school he was quickly to undo his seat belt and slide out the car, I wound down my window and smiled at him
"Have a good day Noah!" I yelled giving him a little wave.He waved and began to run into the school, I sat back and watched him run towards the school, he was so eager to get in there and learn, my thoughts were interrupted by a kid that looked a little older than Noah, towering over him and shoving him ever so slightly.
With my fatherly instincts I quickly jumped out of the car and walked over, a worried and serious expression along my face, I walked over and could hear what the boy was saying to him.
"I don't like you" the boy said in a high pitched voice "I don't like your hair, I don't like your nose, I don't like your eyes"I stood behind him and folded my arms. "And I don't like your attitude" I looked down on him as he turned around slowly, staring back up at me.
"Daddy!" Noah came running over to me and hugging onto my leg.
"I'm going to kindly ask you to leave Noah alone now before I tell a teacher." The little boy nodded
"No more picking on Noah, no more picking on anyone, got it?""G-got it.." He stuttered before turning around and running off. I then bent down to Noah's level and stroked his cheek. "If anyone bugs you like that, tell me ot a teacher play buddy." I kissed him in the cheek.
"Yess daddy." He smiled and ran off to class as the bell rang.
I walked back to me car and started the engine. He'll be fine. He's a big boy and judging by his attitude he can take care of himself most of the time. I reached the driveway and parked the car behind Chaz's dark blue Holden which had appeared while I was dropping Noah at school. I got out the car and made my way into the front door and into the kitchen where I found Jess still sipping on her coffee and Chaz sitting across from her.
"Should we tell him?" I heard chaz ask Jessicah.
"I don't think we should. It'll be better for him if he doesn't know." Jess replied and took another sip from her coffee.
I was intrigued by their conversation so I hid around the corner and listened in. Were they talking about me? What was it they weren't telling me?
"Yeah I guess you're right Chaz. He won't like it though. He'll hate us forever." Chaz added in and smiled.
"He'll get over it. What are we going to do with the kids?" Jess asked with a yawn.
Chaz shrugged. "Figure it out. that's not my problem."
Before Jess could answer there was a cry from down the hallway. Eliza had slept in quite a bit this morning for a two year old. I still can't believe that she's two! I remember the day I held her in my arms for the first time.
I shook my head as Jessicah snapped me out of my thoughts. "Oh Justin. How long have you been standing there?" She asked and bit her lip.
I thought quickly. "Oh just walked in. Do you want me to get Eliza?"
Jess nodded. "If you don't mind. Oh Chaz is over. Go get her and bring her out to see him." She kissed me on the cheek and skipped back into the kitchen.
I sighed and made my way to our room where Eliza was sitting up in her crib. At least she doesn't keep secrets from me. I picked her up as she smiled.
"Daddy!" She laughed.
I smiled back. "Hey baby girl."
She yawned as she was still waking up. I carried her out the room and down the hallway. I need to know what they are talking about. What were they planning? I shook my head. "You're over reacting Justin." I whispered to myself.
