The next week was school. Everything just felt as though it were back to normal as there was no more Jacinta... in fact she apparently dropped out of school. Well the only thing that was different about life was that Jessicah and I were a couple... which drove Chaz mad as we were over the top cute.
"Can you guys just stop. I'm trying to eat." Chaz complained and looked away.
Jessicah giggled and I rolled my eyes. "We had to put up with it when you were going out with what's her face." I argued and turned my head to smile at Jess.
"Yeah Chaz. Chill out. What did happen between you and her anyway?" She asked and lifted an eyebrow.
He shrugged. "Apparently I was flirting with other girls. I'm chilled with it cause anyone who tells me to stop flirting with the girls obviously wants me gay."
I laughed. "Whatever makes you happy man."
Jess shook her head sarcastically and kissed my lips gently. "He's not normal."
I chuckled. "Definately."
Chaz crossed his arms and took anoter bite of his chocolate bar. "I can hear you."
I moved my arm from around Jessicahs waist and pulled my bag up onto my lap, fiddling around for my phone which I had thrown in there during English. Mrs Jones doesn't like students being on their phone during class... apparently it's because it stops us from learning or something. So when I got bored in class and pulled out my phone she noticed and told me to put it away before she took it.. so that's the story about why my phone is sitting in the bottom of my bag.
"Justin!? Come back down to earth man!" Chaz snapped me out of my daydream.
"Oh sorry.. Just looking for my phone." I smiled and pulled my phone from my bag. "Got it."
Chaz laughed. "Your face when Mrs Jones caught you... priceless!" He was laughing so hard that his face was turning red.
"What happened?" Jessicah pouted her lips.
"It's nothing.. Just got caught texting in class." I assured her and kissed her on the cheek.
"What makes it so funny is that i'm always on my phone and I never get caught." Chaz shook his head and pulled another chocolate bar from his bag.
"It's cause she's always got one of her eyes on me... she hates my guts!" I complained and looked up at the dark clouds forming above us. I think it's going to rain.
Jess giggled. "Chaz you're going to get fat. Is that all you eat? Chocolate..." Before he could answer she took it from his hands and took a bite.
"Hay! That's mine!" He tried to grab it back while I just laughed.
Jessicah smiled. "WAS yours.. mine now." She took another bite.
Chaz just sat there watching in silence as Jessicah slowly devoured his favourite food... teasing him with every bite. Luckily the bell went meaning Chaz could leave for his music class which I have with him.
We all stood up and I put my bag on my shoulder before grabbing Jess's and giving it to her.. she can't really bend down to pick things up at the moment.
"See you after class beautiful." I kissed her softly before leaving with Chaz to music.
Just as we were under the veranda it started raining. How was that for a guess aye. We walked to music in silence until Chaz let out a huge sigh.
"You're different around her..." He almost sounded sad.
I creased my forehead but continued looking at my feet. "What do you mean?"
He shrugged. "You just are. I can't explain it... all I can say is that you've changed."
I looked up at his face and he was just biting his lip, concentrating on the rock he had brought inside that he was kicking. "You're confusing me... I mean i've changed? I've been around Jessicah for almost a year now and suddenly i'm different? Man you're crazy..."
He stopped and looked up at me. "That's it! There you go again with the crazy and the 'not normal'... you rarely called me those things last year and since you met Jessicah you've become... meaner."
I lifted an eyebrow. "Meaner... is that even a word?"
He shrugged and started walking off to class again ignoring my question.
"Chaz! I'm sorry..." I moved quickly to follow him.
He shook his head. "No you're not. Everyone just picks on Chaz... 'Hey look it's Chaz, let's go tell him how stupid he is'."
I put my hand on his shoulder and he stopped walking and looked up at me with a half sad, half irritated look on his face. "No... I really am sorry. I didn't know you felt that way. You just never seem to mind, like you don't care what other people say about you."
He sighed "Well I try Justin, you know, not to care but i'm only human. There's only so much I can take."
I nodded as I knew what he meant. I looked up at the empty corridor and realised that we were going to be late for class but I had to finish this conversation.
"Chaz... I can't help but think there is something else... something on your mind other than this." I Lent against a locker and watched as he just shrugged again.
"It's nothing. I mean there's nothing." He lied and I could tell as he looked down at his feet that were playing with the same rock.
I sighed. "Chaz, I've known you for years and you don't think I can't tell if there is something wrong? I'm being serious... what's up?"
When he didn't respond I bent down and picked up the rock so he would listen to me. "Give that back.."
"Not until you tell me what's going on." I put the rock in my pocket.
Chaz rolled his eyes and sighed again. "Fine... my mum kicked me out last night."
"See was that so har... Wait... she kicked you out? Why didn't you tell me!?" I was shocked. Why hadn't he told me? Didn't he trust me anymore either.
He threw his head back. "I tried to tell you... about 100 times but every times I go to say something Jessicah comes up. Like last night when I rang you looking for a place to stay the night you just said that you couldn't talk cause Jessicah was on the other line and you hung up."
I had no idea that I was being mean to him. I didn't even realise that I was pushing him away. I felt so bad and I just wanted to shoot myself for not being a better friend. "Chaz I didn't know. You have no idea how sorry I am..."
Chaz held up his hand, signalling for me to stop talking. "Don't worry about it." Before I could say any more he turned around and opened the door to our class.
I knew that I was going to have to make it up to him but how I would do that was the tricky part. I just couldn't believe that I could be so self centered... that's just not like me, is it?
