Diana's POV
I let the name slip from my mouth.
"So you remember him now?" Asks my mom. All eyes were on me.
"Not really. He was at the hospital." I say.
Everyone moves to the living room. The only people that I recognize are mom, Nicey, Val, Aiden, and Jonah...barley. The rest introduce themselves; Jack,Daniel,Zach,Corbyn, and Sophia. They begin to clue me in on how we're all this big friend group. Zach is dating Nicey. Val is dating Daniel. Sophia just moved to town. Sophia and Jack are dating too. Corbyn is dating someone named Christina but I never met her. There is so much to process.
They decide to let me breathe and back off except Zach. He walks towards me.
"Hey Diana." He says.
"Uh...hi." I say unsure what he could have to say.
"So uh...it's actually my birthday tomorrow but I'm having a party with us all tonight. I doubt you really remember that with everything so I just wanted to bring it up to you if you felt up to coming. What do you think?" He asks.
I don't know how to answer. I really don't want to hang out with a bunch of strangers but at the same time it's the guys birthday and apparently we're all supposed to be friends.
"Umm...sure" I say to him and he smiles. Welp. Looks like I have plans tonight.
Nicey, Val, and Sophia come to pick me up for the party. They go on about how much fun tonight will be but I can't relate. This transition is really tough right now.
We get to Zach's house and the guys are all there. I kinda awkwardly stay by myself and I see Jonah did too. I don't know why but I walk over to him.
"So Jonah, how do I know you? What are we?" I ask. Before he can answer I add,"and why were you at the hospital?"
"Wanna talk outside?" He asks and offers me his hand. We walk out to the porch away from everyone. I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not.
"So..." I say we are alone now.
"I was at the hospital because I wanted to make sure that you were okay. We're friends. Neighbors. I was there for your mom when you were in the hospital. I took care of her." He says.
"Sounds like there's more." I say. He looks down.
"Yea? How?"
"Well...how long have I known you?"
"We've been neighbors since the second grade." He answers.
"Well then there's defiantly more to the story than what you told me." I say.
"Maybe it doesn't matter. It's nothing life changing. We were best friends." He says.
"I want to know what our story is." I say. The door opens.
"Hey guys. Zach's cake is coming out! Better get in." Says Val. With that we go in and sing happy birthday to a guy named Zach Herron.
