Strange New Beginings

Embry was right. No one died. Jackson is a normal wolf now, so that's cool. Everything is finally chilling out. Scott is no longer dating Allison. Embry and Stiles don’t really know what they are. Kind of just, best friends.

Summer is almost over. Today is the last day. Embry hasn’t changed on any full moons. But she does wake up in her bed, naked, sweaty, and alone each time. So that could be something.

She is still 16, she’ll be 17 on February 13 -she wasn't here for her last birthda- but she has her own car, nothing flashy, just a red 2003 Mazda Protege. Embry got a job, to pass time. She washes clothes and spends time with the patients at Eichen House. Scott and her mom think she got a job at a gas station. She may have lied a bit.

Embry still is in a lot of pain. Her head hurts all time, except for when she is around Stiles, and she’ll get random burst of pain. But usually she can control it. She gets signs when they are about to happen. Like a panic attack. Her hands shake and she tastes a nasty chemical in the back of her throat. She still gets these weird visions. Like that one girl from Twilight. The pixie one.

“Embry, what's the word today?” Scott calls from his bedroom. He asked her to help him get better with his school and stuff. He went to summer school, had Embry tutor him, he even read some books. Very impressive. Embry thinks he did it to get his mind off Allison.

“Jejune: lacking interest, significance, or impact,” Embry states, reading off her laptop.

“Can you use it in a sentence?” Scott pokes his head in her room for just a second.

“I am jejune with going to work today,” Embr goes back to getting ready for work.

“You are lacking interest in going to work,” Scott beams. Very proud of himself.

“Good job, kiddo. Now,” Embry points to the hallway, “Out. I need to get ready.”

“Call in sick. Come with me and Stiles to get my tattoo,” Scott smiles and sits on her bed.

“Ugh, fine. And It’s Stiles and me,” Embry smiles and closes the door. Changing into a black skater skirt and Stiles flannel tied in the middle. Embry slips on some black flats and throws her hair in a bun.

“Okay, I’m ready,” Embry grabs her purse and phone and goes to Scotts room.

“Boy, it’s a good thing you drew me a picture,” The tattoo guy remarks. Making Embry giggle.

“Hey, Scott, sure you don't want something like this?” Stiles holds up one that looks like the kanima. Embry freezes. She stills has nightmares, “Too soon?

“Yeah,” Scott nods.

“I don't know, man, are you sure about this? I mean, these things are pretty, permanent, you know?” Stiles pesters. Embry just rolls her eyes.

“I’m not changing my mind,” Embry glances around the shop. One design catches her eye. A small trinity knot. Hmm. Maybe she’ll get it someday.

“Okay, but why two bands?” Embry’s ears perk up. She’s been drawing something like that for the past few days.

“I don’t know, I just like it,” Scott shrugs. Embry goes back to looking around.

“But don't you think your first tattoo should have some sort of meaning, you know, or something?” Stiles won’t stop talking. His fingers doing this weird thing.
