Waving goodbye to the dragon had landed me a task.
All the parents want me to pat the heads of their children. There a few questions by the kids sometimes, which is usually adorable.
I get dragged away from that to meet with the local leaders. People usually wearing a cream and white rode.
They ask many questions, but permit me to decide what I want to answer.
The first topic is "Tuls". Apparently they are something like muses, but they bring engineering solutions instead of songs or prose.
One of them point out that not having them where I am from might be even more proof. If this is the home of Tuls.
I let slip that one creative type has nearly put communication devices into the hands of all six billion people.
Once again, I receive the "pure silence, stare at me, stare at someone else, look back at me "moment.
The Mage walks over. "They will want you to stay. I think you should."
We have a conversation that disturbs me after I ask him for his honest opinion. The rulers here are all trying to have the strongest of children born in their realms. Like an arms race.
The mage had lost his contract with his ruler today and was immediately recouped and hired by the mages council.
If I stayed here, it would keep kingdoms from getting nervous about one realm having a stronger fighter.
In accepting, I got my own cream and white robe.
Two others come to the mage. He seems very impressed and introduces them as the two best know "solution makers" alive. They will go serve the ruler I made the deal with. To cover the loss of me staying here.
"It will take us several days to walk there, which will give him time to consider how to use us. Projects for himself, or sending us to other realms for some exchange of value. Either way, he saved himself the cost of paying this mage for his years of service. We will be sure to make sure he thinks of this as a good outcome."
