To go dancing or embrace blissful death? To Shikamaru death felt like the more comfortable option rather than having to move consecutively for an hour as people around you bumped their way to you. The loud sounds of drums being banged and horns being tooted, if it were up to him he'd choose death in a second but-Those big light brown eyes shining his way, smiling if that were even possible as another smile on a pair of lips were also given to him.
To think, this could all have been avoided if he didn't make the mistake of nagging Hide on their way to the academy for missing one of their cloud watching sessions for the sake of twinkling her toes (dancing) with a bunch of strangers. Now he had to face his mistake and ultimately take up twinkle toes' offer in being her dancing partner for her next dance meeting.
Not only would there be no clouds to be watched but he had to be moving for an hour, what a drag.
The lazy boy no matter where his eyes roamed couldn't avoid the small sun shining her scorching rays in his direction. His lips formed a pout and released a tired sigh.
"I'll move for thirty minutes and nothing more." His version of 'okay stop smiling at me before I go blind' made Hide beam with more joy, she jumped slightly and clapped her hands in congratulations. Choji who stood next to the happy girl, joined in on the celebration and stopped chewing on his chips and grinned at the scowling boy.
"Don't look so down in the dumps Shikamaru, Hide took me one time and so many pretty ladies." Choji let out a dreamy sigh remembering his time with the beautiful ladies, only dancing with the young girl for about twenty minutes before he spent the rest of the time ogling the women as he ate a bag of chips.
The scowl that rested on the taller boy's face was soon cracked into a small smile noticed only to the other boy as soon as the happy girl wrapped her arms around his waist.
Shikamaru's short lived smile dropped and scrunched his face upward when he saw the familiar orange jumpsuit wearing blonde sitting alone. The other two friends followed his gaze, one held the same confused expression while the other unwrapped her arms and smiled at the orange jumpsuit boy.
"What are you doing here Naruto? This isn't for dropouts you can't be here unless you graduated."
Naruto held his thumb outward and pointed to the blue headband tied around his forehead, "Oh yeah do you see this, do you see this open your eyes Shikamaru it's a regulation headband." Hide cast her eyes on the headband and noticed the metal plate that proudly represented the leaf symbol was thoroughly shiny like it had been cleaned intensively.
"Were gonna be training together how do you like that?" Naruto's grin was wide, the tone in his voice sounded smug yet proud that he earned his spot here along with the rest of the genin.
Shikamaru humphed, a hand rested on his hip.
"Let me tell you something, I look great in this head gear like it was made for me. Believe it!" Naruto giggled and let his hand rest on either side of his headband. His thoughts went to the day he got it, Mizuki, fighting, the scroll. His wounds were healed since then and always scouted Hide to see if there were any on her like he was doing now, He inspected her arms and face and again, no injuries. What caught his attention was her smile that sparkled as if the sun's rays resided in it. Her smiling at him was now something that made his heart thump faster in his chest every time he saw it.
