Hide forced herself back on her two feet, ignoring the warning signs ringing in her head and the nerves that were begging her body to shake with fear. Her fist were pressed to her side, clenched as hard as she could to stop herself from showing any doubts of fear. Even if she was afraid, she grasped the book's spine like her life depended it on it.
Even if there was an S ranked shinobi, there was absolutely no way she would dare leave without her book. It wasn't much of an option to even consider running away. With the life as a kunoichi, she would've faced someone as dangerous as Zabuza eventually so technically, if she thought of it, this encounter would be reference for more dangerous enemies in the future.
The more she thought of it that way, the more courage seeped into her veins taking over the fear that was trying to take control.
"Well, well, if it isn't Zabuza Momochi: rogue ninja from the village hidden in the mist." Kakashi announced. He took a few steps forward so he stood in front of the genin and their client, he moved his head discretely, not all the way back but enough for Hide to acknowledge. It was a sign of 'Good Work.' Her caution turned out to be in their favor.
Naruto stared down the shirtless man. The four words repeating in his head, 'Demon of the mist.' A shiver ran down his spine, one that he ignored. He couldn't afford to be afraid, not when his honor was on the line. He needed to prove he was better than Sasuke and battling a demon was a sure way for him to surpass the Uchiha. He burst into a dash, one that wasn't long; Kakashi extended his right arm blocking Naruto from taking another step.
"You're in the way, get back." Kakashi warned. Naruto did as told but the irritation settled within him.
"You remember what Hide said back on the boat. He is on a whole other league-" Naruto's irritation stopped, Kakashi reduced his arm length, raising it towards his headband.
"If he's our opponent I'll need this-" Hide couldn't mask the shock written on her face. She knew the stories of the legendary Kakashi of the Sharingan but figured those to be mere flukes or that his eyes rivaled the Uchiha's sharingan but when she noticed his right eye always covered and now, when he was on the verge of revealing the eye.
'But, what, no, it's, it's, impossible!'
"Now quick! Manji formation, protect the bridge builder!" Kakashi again forced Hide out of her thoughts. Her body tried to move but the curiosity, the anticipation was more appealing to her at the moment she couldn't move. From her peripheral vision, she noticed no one move either so she knew, she wasn't the only one who was curious.
