Void had taken over the sky. No shining light reached the village only a cloak of black that would have been impossible to see through had it not been for the bright white sparkles that were scattered throughout the darkened sky. Everyone or most of everyone had taken comfort in their homes, lights had been turned off and had taken their rest for the day. There were some doing their job, keeping a lookout around the border of the village, keeping any threat out and the citizens safe.
And then there was one, more alert and on guard than the rest. Unlike those who were on duty to protect the village, she had the opposite role. She was on a mission that was not only self-proclaimed but quite possible breaking every rule the village had to offer.
But she didn't care, not this time.
Three weeks and four days, twenty-five days of silence, of more questions than answers, no answers in fact. She remained in the dark and the questions began to pile and she had yet to figure out an explanation and those who she figured would have some answers, would not be inclined to tell her anything.
So Hide rolled up her sleeve and decided to do it herself.
One week. Hide gave herself one week of preparation. When light had been removed and darkness took over the sky, when everyone had called it a day, Hide roamed the streets, stalked up against a tree hiding her chakra, letting her environment disguise her as her eyes were glued to her target: the academy building specifically where the Hokage administrative division was located.
While Hide didn't have to worry about the shinobi whose posts were around the border of the village, there were ANBU who took it upon themselves to walk the streets around the academy, which coincidentally was located close to the Hokage residency where the Third Hokage resided.
For a week she remained discrete as she could, following their pattern of when ANBU members would pass by the building. A week of built up stress and nerves making sure she was far enough to not be discovered but close enough to see anyone them passing. Hide had to admit the schedule of when ANBU would pass was difficult to pinpoint. Times of how often and if they passed was irregular and the intervals of one ANBU member to another again varied but counting the moments from one to another for a week she discovered it was no less than fifteen minutes.
