Summer again

chapter 11

When I came to, I noticed we were out from under the snow and everyone surrounded me with looks of concern were plastered across their faces.

"What happened?" I asked confused.

"You passed out, we thought it was due to the lack of air." Sarel answered.

"But then you open your eyes and they were glowing blue. Then you started to laugh and said we were doom and that we shouldn't have come. It was weird because it wasn't your voice " Flora added.

"Then snowflake over here started freaking." Aidan mentioned gesturing towards Aspen. I nodded my head slowly trying to process things.

"How long was I out and how did we get from under the snow?" I asked still very confused.

"After you finished 'talking' we knew we had to get out from under the snow. Snowflake was able to create a tunnel so we could get out. You were out for about a day." Aidan answered.

"I don't like you calling me Snowflake!" Aspen yelled at Aidan it was clear he didn't like the nickname. Aidan  got up and looked him dead in the eye.

"Watcha gonna do about it!? Huh?" Aidan yelled back I knew they were going to start a fist fight soon so I decided to intervien.

"I like it, I think it's cute." I smiled getting up slowly trying not to fall. Aspen broke eye contact with Aidan to look at me his face turned red and then I felt my face get warm. Aidan noticed how red Aspen was getting and he put his arms around me then gave a low growl. I rolled my eyes and pushed him off of me. "How much more do we have to go before we reach the Ice Queen?"

"She's at the top of the mountain, and there are five resting areas we can stay after climbing. So at most five days." Aspen answered.

"Good, now lets start climbing." I smiled and Aspen started making a new rope out of ice. He did the same thing he did the last time and we started to climb. This time I was on Aspen's back, I did it just so Aidan would learn his lesson for last time.

"Do you think the Ice- uh- your sister was trying to tell us to turn around?" I asked Aspen curiously.

"Definitely, that was her voice coming from your mouth. Plus when I started 'freaking out' I heard her in my head." He answered giving a small creeped out shiver and continued climbing. I tightened my arms around his shoulders and layed my head on his shoulder.

"I have another question." I said quietly in his ear. "And you don't have to answer if you don't want to."

"What is it?"

"How come you didn't end up like your sister? Like you're really nice and sweet and she wants to freeze the world."

"Well... I don't really know. She was so nice before but one day she came home crying and didn't leave her room. Every so often when I walked by her room I heard her say 'I hate him' or 'He's goin to pay'. Which was out of her character and I thought I had done something wrong. Then one day there was a big commotion in our village, that's when I found out what happened to her." He answered with a sad tone in his voice.

"What happened?" I questioned some more.

"She killed the boy that froze her heart. That day I went to her room to see if she was alright but she was gone." 

"Oh..." I trailed off trying to process all that he said.

"Can I ask you a question?" He asked after a long moment of silence.

"Sure."

"Are you and Aidan a thing?" He asked blandly.

"I-I don't k-know." I mumbled as my face grew hot "Like we kissed once but..."

"Oh..."

We finally reached the next cliff and we started to set up camp. Sarel started a fire and everyone started to go to sleep. I decided to stay awake to think, as I looked at the stars I realized may not make it home. Then silent tears started to fall down my cheeks, I laid down and wiped my tears and before I knew it I had fallen asleep.
