Summer again

Chapter 19

I placed my hand on Lavender's shoulder and gently shook her awake. She started to stir and slowly sit up.

"Morning, sleepy head." I said as she rubbed her eyes. She looked at me and gave me a sleepy smile.

"Morning," She mumbled. "Why do you get up this early to go hunt?"

"Well..." I explained. "Animals are more active around sunrise so we need to get to a hunting spot before the first light of day."

"Oh..." She answered sounding like she wanted to go back to sleep.

"You can go back to sleep if you want." I said walking away to pack some hunting gear.

"No..." She wined as she quickly got to her feet. "I want to go, I'm just tired that's all"

She limped over and started gelping me pack. I asked Flora if she could barrow her bow for today. I handed the bow to her and gave her a quick lesson on how to use it. Once we were all set we went out to a spot in the woods and taught Lavender how to set simple traps. We then crouched behind a cluster of snow covered bushes and waited.

Lavender's pov:
We crouched behind some bushes, we waited till I saw a deer emerge from behind a tree. The sun had risen and the scene looked like it came straight out of a painting.

"Try to shoot it, remember what I taught you." Aidan whispered. I nodded and silently notched an arrow, I raised it to point at the deer. I drew the bow and took a deep breathe in. When I was about to release the bow-string, the deer looked at me. I closed my eyes and released. Then I heard a series of thuds.

"Did I do it?" I asked with my eyes still closed.

"Yeah, that was nice." He said getting up. I opened my eyes and followed him to where a the deer, that is now dead, and watched as Aidan kneeled down next to it. The deer had the arrow shot right threw it's heart and it's eyes were still open, looking at me still. Aidan pulled out his knife and started gutting it. I tryed not to gag as he tool all the deers intestines and threw them to the side.

"Something the matter, princess?" He teased.

"Uh... Um... I..." Tryed to say while trying not to gag anymore.

"It's ok, you don't have to watch if you don't want to." He told me as he started to skin the deer.

"N... No...I... I'm fine." I replied regaining my composure. I watched Aidan's back as he continues to gut the deer.

When he was done, he pulled out a large piece of clothe and put 5 chunks of meat on it. He then wrapped it up and stood up to face me.

"You did good, now lets go back to camp." He smiled.

We walked back to camp and all I could think about is me shooting the deer.

Once we were back at camp Aidan and I started a fire and started to cooking the deer meat. As it was cooking everyone started to wake up.

"How was your first time hunting?" Flora asked as I handed her, her bow back.

"It was ok, terrifying, but ok." I answered with a slight unsettled expression on my face.

"Lav did really good for her first time hunting. The first time I went hunting with my dad I shot a tree and when my dad gutted a wolf he shot I tossed some cookies." Aidan added.

I started to laugh a bit before Aidan gave a slight glare and started laughing too. When we were done cooking we all got a chunk of meat and started eating breakfast. We all started having conversations with each other, except Aspen who was using a stick to draw something it the dirt. I would glance over at him every so often and see him mutter something to himself before wiping something away. No one else payed him any mind, until he looked up at us like he just discover the meaning of life and said:

"I just came up with our battle plan."

And we all gathered around with intrest.
