Co- written with @Artsy- em88Nick almost couldn't believe everything that was going on, so far it was a disaster! Nick sighed and walked into the interrogation room with his father, and sat across from two police officers. "Good Morning Nick, I am terribly sorry for your loss. Would it be okay if we asked a few questions about your mother?"
Nick felt like one hundred hammers had hit him in the head, at the thought of talking about his mother's death. His own mother, not someone else's just his. It almost didn't seem real, But he nodded and said "sure." He took a deep breath and started "the last time I saw my mother was Sunday night around 7:30 pm." The police officer nodded and scribbled something down.
"Is there anything else?" The police asked as he crossed his legs.
"No, only that she said she was going to the gym in the morning." Nick told the police officer.
The police officer nodded again and he kept writing in his note pad. Nick sat there with his dad and waited assuming that the officer would question his dad too, and he was right.
"okay, Mr. Burns I'm sorry for you loss, but I am going to have to ask you a few questions." The officer said and Mr. Burns nodded in agreement.
"okay, Mr. Burns, when was the last time you saw you wife or talked to your wife?" the officer said.
"The last time I saw my wife was at 6:15 am when she was going to the gym and I was getting ready to go to work." Mr. Burns stated.
"okay Mr. Burns I would like to ask you a few more questions without Nick in the room." the officer said because he was concerned he would upset Nick more.
"okay" Mr. Burns said as Nick got up.
"hey dad can I just go home it's 7:00 and I just want to get out of here." Nick said as he stopped in the doorway out of the interrogation room.
"Nick I don't feel comfortable leaving you alone when your mother just turned up dead and you found detective Regan dead in his home, and I also can't forget about you sister who turned up dead the exact same way your mother did." Nick's dad explained.
Nick sat back down and tried to ignore the questions the officers were asking his dad. He remembered as a kid someone made fun of him, and he went crying to his mother,
'Mom, it's not fair that they bully me.'
'Honey life isn't fair. There can be horrible people in this world, and good ones too. Always remember that you are a good one, and I'll always love you no matter what.'
Nick felt as the whole world had just collapsed onto him, his father always said never to cry when you're down. But it was impossible, Nick fought the tears back and thankfully the questions were over.
"You can go home now, I'm sorry for putting you through this." the officer stated.
The minute Nick got home he shut the door and collapsed onto his bed, with tears streaming down his face. His crying was silent, but the pain Nick felt in his chest may as well have been screaming. When Nick finally was calm he decided to go to sleep, since it was late enough. He really didn't feel like eating.
He said goodnight to his father, and curled up in a ball on top of his bed trying to erase the picture of his mother stone cold lying on the floor.
'what could've been her last thought?'
'What was her last memory?'
He couldn't stop thinking about what happened, and felt terribly guilty for not saying a proper goodbye one last time
The next morning Nick was determined to find the killer. To bring this ciaos to rights.
'Is there a reason why the killer is targeting people I know?'
'Does the killer have something against me?'
'Maybe my father?'
Nick walked out to the kitchen, his dad already left for work. He noticed a note on the fridge door.
'I don't think you should go to school today. I will talk to your teacher, If you need anything call my number.'
Nick placed the note in his pocket and opened the window.
"Fresh air helps everything" he said mockingly. This is something everyone in their town says, the truth is fresh air doesn't help everything. Especially when your family is slowly leaving you.
He suddenly remembered the old detective work book he was given as a kid. He was sure there was something about writing out details the minute something happens.
'wait...!!!' he thought
He ran right up the stairs like a bolt of lightning and went diving into his desk drawers. After 20 minutes of muttering curse words and ripping half his room apart he gave up on looking and he turned around to walk out of his room, but only to find that the detective book was sitting atop his tall dresser. Nick sighed and thought 'Well I ripped my room apart for no reason.'
Nick worked on writing down every detail, and every possible person who could've murdered such a innocent person. This might get him nowhere but it will get him somewhere. He suddenly remembered that when someone kills someone else, they usually have a motive so he had to figure out who had something against his mom, and possibly his sister because they were killed the exact same way and found in the same place.
After a while of writing down reasons people might have wanted to kill his mom and sister his dad walked i the door.
"Hey Nick can you come down here please?" Nick's father called from the door.
"Yes dad, coming." Nick yelled as he ran down the stairs.
"Okay, so I wanted to talk to you about something." Nick's dad said as he put down his brief case and took of his jacket.
"Okay?" Nick said unsure and a little worried.
"On Saturday morning at 10:00 I have arranged your mom's funeral." Nick's dad told him.
"Okay, who will be there?" Nick asked.
"It will mostly be close family and friends." Nick's dad said as he walked in the kitchen to get a bottle of water.
"Okay then, and I'm going to school tomorrow I almost went stir crazy sitting in the house all day." Nick said with a bit of a chuckle.
"Yes you can go to school tomorrow, and plus it's Thursday tomorrow." Nick's dad said with a smirk on his face.
"What's so special about Thursday?" Nick asked.
"Well it is the school dance remember you went on and on about it and you wanting to ask Natalie to go with you." Nick's dad said surprise that Nick forgot about the dance.
"Oh yah, after the chaos that has happened between mom and Nicole and finding a dead detective I forgot." Nick said.
After dinner nick decided to call Natalie and ask her to the dance. After a few rings on the phone Natalie finally answered "hello?" She said.
Nick: "hi it's Nick."
Natalie: "omg Nick I heard what happened to your mom and I'm so sorry."
Nick: "thank you and I was calling to ask if you would let me take you to the dance tomorrow?"
Natalie: "yah sure."
Nick: "Okay I'll see you tomorrow then."
Natalie: "Okay bye."Nick hung up the phone and went back downstairs and sat down in the couch with his dad and they watched the latest episode of Riverdale .
Nick was not paying attention to anything on the T.V, he was lost in all of his thoughts, he jumped back and forth between the dance tomorrow and his mom's funeral on Saturday.
Finally after several hours of watching T.V Nick went to bed and he fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow and he drifted off in dreams, more like memories of his mom.
