However, that's not what happened. My dark thoughts didn't come anywhere near the light. Instead, when I walked into the kitchen, Gio was there. He was talking to someone, so I walked in farther to see that it was Nick. They were having a civilized conversation.
"Uh, hey guys," I said lightly. I didn't really expect them to hear me, but they did. Both of them looked at me and smiled.
"Where's Mom? And where've you been?" I asked Nick.
"She's outback with Fe, playing with Fluffy. Apparently Rocky is playing with them too." I'd forgotten that we even had Rocky. I was such a bad owner. If he didn't stay where people could see him, then I'd surely have killed him through starvation.
"And I was with Dad. He's so cool and funny that he let Mom worry and get all hysterical about my being missing and all." Nick smiled.
"So after Mom kicked you out -because you were fussing about her seeing Gio,- you went to go see him?" I asked suspiciously.
"Pretty ironic?"
"I think he brainwashed you."
"Why would I brainwash your brother, Nikki?" Gio asked.
"You could be a psycho trying to lure us to his cabin so that you could kill us. Psychopaths are probably some of the smartest people on earth, so obviously they would know how to brainwash to people to get what they want, as well."
"Don't worry, she says stuff like that point blank all of the time. That's probably the downside of her super healing and other crazy stuff that she can do."
"Okay." Gio didn't look like he wanted to ask anymore about it.
I went and made a plate of food and sat down next to Nick so that I could look Gio in his eyes.
As I chewed my bacon, I stared right into his soul. Well, not into his soul, but pretty close to it. The weird thing was that he stared right back at me with the same intensity. Nick just looked between us.
Slowly, through my peripheral vision, I saw Gio's hand inching towards my plate.
"I don't care if you're my dad, but if you touch my plate, you die." Gio didn't heed my warning and went for a piece of bacon. The following events seemed to happen in less than a second.
One of my hands went to smash Gio's hand going for the bacon, but his hand was too fast than I just hit my plate. Meanwhile, my other hand -which hand a fork in it- went for Gio's other hand. The fork ended up stuck in the table and less than a centimeter away from his middle finger. Remember how I said that I hit my plate? Well, it just so happened that my hand hit the edge of the plate and the plate flew right onto Gio's face. My precious food was ruined.
"No!" I screamed. I glared at Gio some more before I slowly got up and walked to make another plate of food.
Nick just laughed.
"More food for me," Gio said. That landed a steak knife flying past his face, nicking his ear. That knife landed in the doorway that my mom just so happened to be walking through.
"Nikki Shay! What have I said about throwing knives?" Mom yelled as she entires the house with Felecia and the pets.
"Only throw them when my life is in danger," I mumbled.
"And was your life in danger?"
"Not particularly."
"That's right, now apologize."
"I'm sorry Gio for throwing a knife at you and trying to stab your hand, even though you ruined my meal." Gio just produced a grunt that only an old man could produce.
