Chapter 10
It's been two weeks since Nikki got shot. It was devastating to a lot of people. Nobody seemed to blame me, but comfort me, because Nikki was my best buddy and it could of been me. I didn't really pay attention to school; I went into LaLa Land. Afterwards I went to archery practice, which I was going to surprise Nikki with. I then went to the hospital, went home and did my homework.
I went to church and seemed to pray a lot more. I hoped that no one would ever have to be in me or Nikki's family and friends were in. The doctors said that her wound was healing well, but she could be in a coma for days, weeks, months, or even years. I was hoping that Nikki's superhuman healing would shave off some of those years, months, weeks, and days.
I came in on Saturday afternoon. It was the only time that I would be able to come in, since one person was allowed in the room and Nikki's family would be here in an hour. I sat in the chair pulled up to her bed. My hand moved into hers.
"I'm sorry, Nik," I said as tears rolled down my cheeks. I sniffled a little. "I guess you wouldn't want to see me crying. Would you? Just wake up soon." Nothing came out of my mouth after that. I just thought.
I met Nikki on the first day of kindergarten. She was this girl who raised her hand for all of the questions, even if she didn't know the answer. She always questioned our teacher, Mrs. Morely. However, Nikki was known as the weird girl with the weird voice. Nikki had just moved from Switzerland and had a bit of a German accent, and a lisp.
I befriended her, because I was the nice kid I am and she wanted to be my best friend two weeks after kindergarten. I accepted. We've stayed best friends since. Of course we had our moments; there were moments of revenge, moments of happiness, moments of sadness, and moments of funniness.
I know sometimes Nikki and I would do crazy things to each other. I found a frog in my backyard and stuck it in her ear. The frog stuck its tongue in her and got stuck, but it was on April Fools Day (if that makes it any better). After we left the hospital, she threw an open paint bucket at me. There was also the time I kissed her in her sleep (in fourth grade), she found out, Nikki stuck a sucker in my hair. It didn't come, so I got it cut out and my head shaved.
We weren't always mean to each other. I once got my mom to let me buy a fish for Nikki. It was for Nikki's birthday in May, when we were in seventh grade. She still has that betta fish named Polly and Nikki loves her. There was once the time when Nikki beat up to private school thugs that I rubbed the wrong way. I guess that Nikki saving my life in eighth grade would be considered a happy time. Right?
Nik and I weren't in the same clique for awhile. Nikki was known as a weirdo, even though Ashley and I said that she was great. Almost everyday when we tried to sit with her, one of our friends pulled us to their table in lunch. So she sat alone. That is, until Lasharee started to come to our school -in seventh grade- and was nice enough to sit with Nikki, but everyone liked Lash and the guys thought she was hot. Even I had a little crush on her, until I found out about her crazy punching arm -- Lash now scares me a bit.
During lunch in seventh grade, everything changed. When this football player from the high school came to visit one of his old teachers, he came into the lunch room and sat with Lash and Nikki. They laughed and seemed to have fun. After school though, everything really changed.
The guy, who I later found out that his name was Billy, had approached Nikki. He walked up to her and put his grey fedora on her head, two of his necklaces (one with packman about to eat ghosts and one with 'cool' in colorful letters) around her neck, his mirrored aviators on her face, and six bracelets on one her arms (three braided, two thick rubber bracelets, and one silly band). The biggest thing that he did was kiss her on her cheek and forehead and give her a hug that picked her off the ground. When he left everyone decided that she was cool and accepted her.
Of course, Nikki's ego got bigger and her personality got crazier. She really liked Billy, even though he was two years older than her. She kept his gifts on top of her dresser and loved wearing those aviators on a sunny day, just to blind everyone. Now that I think about it, Billy was supposed to be coming to see her.
"Knock knock." Speak of the devil and he shall appear.
"Hey Chris, I wanted to come see her if you didn't know," Billy said walking into the room. Billy towered over me and was very muscular, way too much testosterone for me to handle, so I give Nikki a quick kiss on the cheek and left the room. Well, I just stood outside the door, while Billy whispered things to her and held her hand. I started to hear Billy sing to her lightly, it was One Thing.
I didn't believe it when her hand twitched. Billy noticed and kept singing the song over and over. Fifteen minutes later her eyes started to flutter open. Nikki stared at Billy while he smiled at her. Was it because she hadn't seen him in two months? A smile crept onto her face.
Wait. Stop. Hold it right there. Did Nikki just wake up? Nikki's superhuman healing abilities woke her up!
I guess that last part I said was out loud, because Billy and Nikki looked at me. Nikki's smiled grew bigger, until she started to giggle. I ran into the room and hugged her. I let go when she groaned in agony. Suddenly, I ran into the hallway and called for a nurse. When the nurse and I came in, Nik was looking into Billy eyes and smiling, and he was looking right back at him. 'What the heck?' I yelled in my head.

I guess that moments between Billy and Nikki was nothing, because they acted normal afterwards. Anyway, we surprised Nikki's family when they came in to see her, and she was up and lauughing in their faces. It was a funny moment.
The head doctor said that Nikki would be released in a little more than a week.
Authors Note:
Anyone one out there? Soo, I decided that this would be kinda like a filler. I don't know if I will add Billy as a main character. Should I?
