Chapter 6
I asked Nick to walk me home. Chris told Lasharee and Ashley who told me that he was staying after school. We were joking around at the time while we walked.
"You're such a pig!" I laughed. We were currently discussing how girls he's already flirted with this school year. It was over forty-five girls. I was still getting over my laughing, when our atmosphere got suddenly very tense.
"I have something important to tell you," Nick said.
"What is it?" I asked, while looking up at him. He looked a bit nervous.
Nick's POV:
She must've seen the sweat on my forehead. I felt like I was nervous. I looked liked I was nervous. I WAS nervous.
"You have to promise me you won't tell anyone," I told her. I felt guilty about doing it, but I needed the money. I needed to pay those guys back.
"Sure, I promise," Nikki smiled up at me. She was normally happy around me (except when I made her run/jog), but this wasn't going to keep her happy.
"I robbed a store," I could barely get it out. "Don't tell anyone."
"Why are you telling me this? And why'd you do it?" Nikki asked. Her voice was hardened.
"I needed the money," I simply said. She looked at me with this face. In her eyes, there was a glare, but her mouth showed a bit of a smile. It was like she was asking: 'And why is that?'
"I needed to pay off some guys," I said. She gave me another look. It was the same as the other one. However, it felt like she was looking at me like I was stupid. 'And why is that?'
"I got some drugs from them, they said I had a month to pay them off. Today was the deadline, and I only fifty bucks, the price of them was ten times that."
"What the h***!" Nikki yelled. Nikki barely ever yelled or cursed. She grabbed my shirt and shook me as much as she could, before wincing. I looked at her arm to see a giant white bandage around her left arm.
"What's that?" I asked, nodding at her arm. I wasn't fazed by her outburst.
"It's nothing!" Niikki yelled, shaking me more. "Are you serious? You did drugs over the summer? Why the h*** would you do that?"
"I kind of wanted to," I said. I started to smile, because seeing Nikki angry was quite funny. She slapped me, before letting me go and sighing.
"Do EVER do it again, do you hear me? Drugs or robbing places." she intructed me. "It's a good thing you aren't addicted. Promise me you won't do it again."
"I can't do that." It was great when I took it. I took it normally once a day and no one could even tell. I kept the baggie in one of the teddy-bears Nikki got me for my birthday. I still had a lot left.
"And why the h*** not?" she asked, adding onto her face was a squinting right eye.
"I still have some left." Suddenly Nikki dropped her bag and took off running. Nikki hated running, but she sure could run fast. She must've known where I had them stashed. I picked up her bag and dashed after her. Instead of going through the front door, she climbed up the tree I used to get to my window like a spider lady. By the time I got up the tree, Nikki had already found the baggie.
"Nikki!" She was running out of the room. I jumped after her ankle. 'Yes.' I caught her ankle. I got kicked in the face. I pulled her foot back down and lept forward. We ended up rolling around. Nikki ended up on top.
"What is this?" she asked while yelling. "Amphetamine?"
"Yeah," I choked out. Her arm was pinning down my neck. She got up and stood there, looking at the bag. She opened the bag, put a pill in her mouth, and swallowed.
