Waking up the next morning, I realized that I had not moved the entire night. Still wrapped in Scotty's arms, my eyes automatically went to my third finger on my left hand. Did last night really happen? Was this all just a dream that I would wake up from soon? No, it obviously wasn't a dream because my ring was still there, glistening in the sunlight that was beaming from the window in the room. Yes, this was reality, it was not a dream.
Obviously feeling me move against him, Scotty started to wake up, stretching his arms behind his back. Looking over to me, he smiled, and pulled me against his bare chest...."Good morning, my fiancée, did you sleep well?," he asked.
Fiancée. Now, this was a word I would have to get use to, but hearing the word from him made me feel as if I was the only girl in the world. The funny thing is that I had just become accustomed to the fact that I was his girl, but now, now we were so much more.
Coming out of my thoughts, I propped myself up with my elbow, the sheet still covering me..."I slept very well, how about you?," I asked.
He smiled, and took my left hand in his, rubbing my ring through his fingers, pausing only for an instance..."I slept better than ever knowing that my future wife was in my arms the entire night," he winked.
Falling down in the bed, I squeezed him and pulled him closer to me, him doing the same and kissing my forehead.
After a few minutes, he asked, "So have you called your mom yet and told her the news?"
Realizing only in this moment that I hadn't called anyone, I felt emotion rush over my body. By not calling anyone, would Scotty think that I wasn't truly happy? Would he think that I didn't want this? After everything that had happened last night, it was so late and I had fallen asleep quickly, not thinking of calling anyone.
Jumping up from the bed, I took the sheet with me to cover myself, before sitting down in the chair by the bed reaching for my phone. Pulling my feet underneath me, I said, "Oh my gosh, it was so late last night and everything happened so fast. How could I have forgot to call my mom?"
He laughed, and turned over on his side, pulling the comforter around his waist, still exposing his bare chest...."It's okay babe, call her now. I'm sure she's expecting your call."
Looking confused, I asked, "What does that mean?"
Again, he laughed and turned over on his back, stretching his arms out above him, before turning his head towards me..."Just call her Gabs, you will see," he winked.

Dialing my mom's number, I was surprised at how quickly she answered the phone, almost as if she really was waiting for my call.
"Hey baby girl, what a surprise. I wasn't expecting a call from you on your weekend getaway with Scotty," she said in a not so convincing tone
I smiled, and looked towards Scotty, before speaking into the phone...."Well, I'm really sorry to call so early, but I have some exciting news to share and I couldn't wait to tell you," wondering if she could tell how excited I was.
"Oh my God, you're pregnant! I knew I should have taken you to the doctor and put you on birth control when the two of you started getting serious," she exclaimed in the phone.
Looking shocked, again I looked at Scotty, and mouthed to him..."She thinks I'm pregnant!"
Unable to hold in his laughter, he had to cover his face with the bed comforter for several minutes as I continued my conversation.
"No Mom!," I almost screamed into the phone, "How could you even think that?" Pausing for a moment, I looked down at my ring, twisting it on my hand, as I continued....."I'm not pregnant, but I am engaged! Scotty asked me to marry him last night at sunset," I shrieked.
There was a silence on the phone, in fact it was so long that I had to ask..."Mom are you there? Did you hear me?"
A few more seconds passed, but it seemed like longer than that before she said, "Well, I was hoping things would go smoothly."
Looking confused, again I looked at Scotty who was now propped up on his elbow, staring in my direction again.
"Wait, what does that mean? What do you mean by you hoped things would go smoothly?," I asked.
By now, a smile had spread across Scotty's face and I wondered exactly what was going on.
She laughed, "Sweetie, did you really think I didn't know? Scotty came and asked your dad for your hand in marriage over a week ago now. I'm so happy for you both. By the way, I didn't really think you were pregnant, just teasing you," she said, laughing again.
Smiling, I moved closer towards Scotty, reaching for his hand, tears trying to form in my eyes. He had done everything in just the right way, following tradition and asking my father if he could marry me. Knowing that he had done that, put so much respect in my heart for this man that I was going to marry.
After a few minutes, I spoke into the phone, my eyes still locked on Scotty's, my hand still in his...."Thank you Mom, we are both extremely happy. We will see you soon," I said, before hanging up the phone, throwing it on the phone, and kissing Scotty.
Breaking away from me, he whispered, "Don't you have more phone calls to make?"
I smiled, "Oh, I think they can wait."
He laughed, "Oh really?"
"Mmm hmm," I whispered
Smiling, he turned me over on my back before standing up from the bed, "Go ahead and call them baby, I need a shower," he said, leaning down to kiss me one more time, before making his way towards the shower.
Watching him walk away, I felt my heart skip a beat. It still had not fully sank in that I would be marrying him, how had we even got to this point? Two weeks ago, when he told me on the bus that night that it would work out for the both of us, I wasn't sure what he meant. Now, I knew exactly what he was talking about and the thought of spending the rest of my life with him made a sense of happiness surge through my body. Hearing the door shut and the water turn on, I flipped over on my side and proceeded to call his mom, his sister, and my best friend Ashley.
Apparently, his mom and sister also knew about the engagement and the only one who didn't was Ashley. I had never heard his mom so ecstatic and we talked for at least fifteen minutes about wedding details. His sister, Ashley, asked me if I liked the monogrammed windbreaker because apparently it was her idea to throw that in there. I told her that I loved the colors and she would have to soon teach me some of her sneaky ways, seeing as how she got my purse two weeks ago without me knowing. Finally, when I called Ashley, her reaction was "Are you kidding me?," followed by loud shrieks and asking me to send her pictures of my ring.
After getting off the phone, I propped the pillows behind me against the headrest and was staring at my ring when I heard the water turn off in the shower.
Joining me by my side, Scotty wrapped his arm around me and leaned his head against mine, "Have you sent anyone a picture of it yet?," he asked.
Looking directly at him, I asked, in a fully serious tone...."I can do that?"
Knowing who he was, I had refrained from sending any pictures or posting anything on the Internet. I knew that the magazines would love a story like this and it would be picked up in no time. Yes, I could see it now...."American Idol Season 10 winner ENGAGED, meet the mysterious woman who stole his heart!," plastered all over the front of every major magazine.
Surprisingly, he laughed, taking my hand in his...."Baby, I want you to do what you want. Send pictures to all of your friends. Post it on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram."
"Are you sure?," I asked
Becoming more serious, he met my forehead, looking me directly in the eyes...."Gabi, I am proud of you and I'm proud to call you mine. I love you with all my heart and I want the whole world to know."
Smiling, I picked up my phone and began snapping pictures, thrilled with excitement that he felt so comfortable with the idea, thrilled with the fact that he wanted everyone to know that I was his.
As I uploaded the picture of my engagement ring to all forms of social media, I wondered what the response would be. Up until this point, I had tried my best to stay out of the spotlight, but here I was throwing myself in head first. To be honest, it scared me somewhat because I had seen how crazy the paparazzi could be.
With that being said, the fear passed somewhat quickly as I realized that sitting right beside me was my protector, the one man, besides my father, that would never let any harm come my way.
