A small groan is emitted from my lips, as I slowly return back to the land of the living. My skull tightens and compresses the blood vessels in my brain, as my ears ring softly. I squeeze my fingers and jerk my head upwards, gasping for air.
I'm alive.
I'm alive.
I try to move forward, but I'm stuck. My eyes open, and all I see is darkness. I try to move my lips, but it refuses to move. I'm sitting on something: most likely a chair. My hands are bound together, and the small space around me, stinks of duct tape. My feet are tied to the legs of the chair, and my torso is also bound to the chair.
Oh God, I need to get out of here. I need to get out of here.
My eyes widen in fear, and I continue gasping fervently for whatever amount of air I can, from fear of passing out again. I force the tears from spilling down my face, as I chide myself for being so weak. Becoming an emotional mess isn't going to do me any favours.
The ground beneath my feet is cold, and I try pushing my legs closer together, to do whatever I can to warm my toes. My jacket is gone, and the frigid air bites my skin.
I need to get out of here.
I scream into the duct tape covering my mouth, and push myself back and forth against the chair. Nathan is back. Bob is dead. This cannot be happening.
I scream and scream, until my throat becomes sore. My hair falls over my face, and my nails claw the arms of the chair. Somebody help me.
Memories of that night, come rushing back like a whirl wind. I still remember dad in his drunken glory, screaming and yelling. I can still see him throw mum at the wall, over and over again. I stand in the corner, yelling at him to stop. He doesn't. Instead, he throws his beer bottle at my face. There's blood everywhere: all over my night dress, my teddy bear, and the grey tiles.
"I'm going to kill you both!" he yells, before storming into the kitchen.
Mum pushes herself up, and staggers towards me. "Run," she says, as she pulls my arm. We run for the front door, and make it out, just as dad grabs his knife. I'm terrified. Mum sways like a drunkard, as we sprint towards the road and into the bushes. Dad chases us with the butcher knife, high in the air.
"I'm going to kill you both!"
A small light bulb turns on, over my head. I wince at the sudden brightness in the room, and glance around my surroundings. I'm no longer in the shed. The room is empty, with red brick walls, and a concrete floor. My legs are bleeding, and I have scratches on my arms.
The door to my left creaks open, and I brace myself. Nathan and I have some intense catching up to do.
But it's not Nathan that walks into the room. It's Lily. For a split second, I come alive again, as I toy with the idea of Lily coming here to save me. But I'm a fool. There's no way Lily is here to save me from my impending fate.
"Hello, Amanda." She sneers. I don't reply. She rolls her eyes, as she drags a chair behind her. "I suppose we'll have to work on your manners, later." She positions the chair in front of me, and pulls out a knife from her pocket. I jerk away in response. "Calm down, I'm not going to kill you. Well, at least, not yet." She toys with the knife for a moment, before grabbing my jaw, and yanking the duct tape from my mouth.
I don't scream. I remain quiet.
"Tell me, Amanda," she takes a seat and crosses her legs. "Do you know who I am?"
"Lily, what are you doing?"
Lily chuckles. "I'm not Lily."
I look at the diamond tattoo on her thigh, and all the pieces of the puzzle come together to create the perfect picture. "Viper." A small breath is expelled from my lungs, and whatever dignity I carried with me, evaporates into thin air. How could I be so foolish?
"Well, that's one of my many names. You might also know me as Sophie-Marie. But that's not all." She reaches for her neck, and I watch in horror as she begins peeling back the layer of skin, until a mask falls to the floor between us. I scream, and throw myself forward. "I bet you thought you'd never see my face again, bitch."
It's Isabella.
