I don't remember much of what takes place after mum takes me in her arms. At first I hear the soft sound of clothing being ripped. Sometime later, small fingers feel the skin on my thigh, and I hiss in pain as pressure is applied on the wound.
"Hold still," I hear mum whisper, "it will be over soon." I pass out a few seconds later.
I wake up to darkness and silence. I'm alone once more. "Mum?" I call out softly. "Mum?" There is no reply. I lean forward and begin patting the cold floor beneath my hands, trying to find her. "Mum?" Still, no reply.
I wrap my arms around myself and focus on my breathing. I tell myself last night was all an illusion. Maybe I didn't see mum. Maybe it was my mind playing tricks in a bid to help me pass through the night, without dying. I touch my thigh and feel the small cloth around my wound. I wasn't dreaming last night.
I drag myself to the corner of the cell, and hang my head. I think of Geraldton and Belfast High. For the first time in a long time, I find myself missing the place. I'd trade my time here, for time back in that forsaken town. I'd gladly put up with the idiots in school and do five years worth of dishes, without a single complaint.
I think of Victoria and smile. It's been a while since I smiled when thinking of her. I remember Isabella's words: She knew too much. Knowing Victoria, she probably discovered it was Isabella, way before I did, and couldn't figure out a way to tell me, because I was basically just being me. I don't want to think she's dead. I imagine her, somewhere, looking at the sun, waiting for this mess to be over and done with.
Maybe she had no choice but to run. But that doesn't explain why she was in contact with Isabella. I shiver and bite my bottom lip. There's no use in coming up with theories. There's no way I'm going to make it out of this place alive. The body count is too high.
It seems Isabella succeeded in doing what she set out to get: revenge. I just didn't think she'd take Nathan out for a ride as well.
A door creaks open, snapping me out of my thoughts. I sit up straighter, as the sound of heavy footsteps make their way towards the cage. I hear the harsh sound of keys clinking together, as the cage door opens. I push my back against the wall, wondering how the person in the room can see in a place like this. It doesn't matter anyway. I am pulled by the hair and dragged out of the room. I don't even have the strength to fight back.
I'm not going to leave this earth, screaming.
"It's nice to see you again." I watch with indifference as Nathan binds my hands and feet together. "You know, I thought you'd be more fun than this."
"I've been punched too many times." I reply dryly.
"Don't worry, you'll get used to it." He looks at the wound on my thigh and smirks, before roughly undoing the makeshift bandage. "That's a pretty cut you have, Amanda. I wonder what would happen if I happened to press down on it."
"Don't you dare!" It's too late. He presses down on the wound and I scream. He holds the thigh in place, as I try moving away from the grasp. By the time he relents his grip on my wound, a pool of blood surrounds my feet, and my thigh hummus in pain. I look at my dress. The bubblegum colour has been lost in the mixture of dirt and blood.
