Clearing Out The Closet
“Hello Annabelle.”
I give Liev a small smile, and enter the car. I look at the scars on my hands saw we turn into Singleton Street, and can’t stop the memories from rushing back.
I turn my head towards the open door, and see a hooded figure. I hold my breath. The figure stands outside for a little while longer, before stepping into the light. Large hands reach out and remove the hood. My blood runs cold when I see the familiar scars and tattoos, and the steel glint in his eye.
“Hello, Annabelle.” he coos.
The all too familiar sense of fear I had for him as a child, comes rushing back as he makes his way towards me. “Hello dad.” I force the words out of my mouth, as my heart beats out of time.
He reaches out and traces a cold finger across the scar on my face. “It’s so good to see you again.”
My lips tremble, and teeth chatter. He can’t be here. He can’t be back. I read the reports, watched the trial, and read the verdict. He was never to leave prison. He was to die there. “What are you doing here?”
He frowns and tilts his head to the side. “You’re pathetic. I see what nine years of being without a real father has done to you,” He grabs me by the jaw and forces me to look him in the eye. Unseen tears blur my vision as he presses harder on my jaw. “I’m going to offer you the only way out of this shit hole, Annabelle.”
“I’m not going to take it.” I reply.
He removes his hand from my jaw and takes a step back. He looks at me like a piece of trash. “You’re not getting out of this one alive. You don’t want to die, do you?”
I remain silent. He grins, and chuckles darkly. “I’m not going to die.”
“You’re not getting out of here either.”
“I’m not going to die tonight.”
“You won’t. I’m offering you one way out of this whole mess. All you have to do is say ‘yes’.”
I repeat myself again. “I don’t want your offer.”
He grabs my jaw again, and pulls me forward. “You’re my spawn, Annabelle, and that makes you a Blackwood. Our family doesn’t die; we survive. Tell me, do you want to die?”
“No.”
“Well, Annabelle. If you do exactly what I tell you to do, you might get out of this one alive.”
Liev places the gun in my hand. “You know what to do.”
