Chapter 3

Avery's POV

I groaned loudly waking up. My body sore all over. I opened my eyes slowly and noticed that I was naked. I looked over seeing someone else next to me.

Looking up I saw Max laying next to me. His body relaxed holding me close in his sleep.

I smiled watching him. His mouth slightly open. I brushed his cheek softly making him move some and sighing.

There was a strange bruise on his neck. I lifted my head some and saw it was a mark.

That's when it hit me. Everything came rushing back from last night. We had sex. We...we are mates.

I felt along my neck and winced when I went over his fresh mark.

He groaned pulling me closer. He must have woken up. "Are you awake?" He croaked and opened his eyes looking at me sleepily.

"No I just sleep with my eyes open." I said rolling my eyes

Max chuckled and rubbed my hip. "How are you feeling?" He asked softly and brushed my cheek.

I hummed and pressed into his hand closing my eyes. "Sore." I whispered.

Max whined and kissed my nose frowning. "Sorry." He whispered. I opened my eyes and looked at him.

I kissed him softly brushing his cheek. "Do not be sorry. I asked for it honey." I whispered and pressed my forehead into his.

Max smiled and held me close and kissed my nose again.

I giggled and frowned. "We need to get back home." I said and rolled away from him and stiffly got up grabbing my scattered clothes.

Max whined and got up getting dressed. "But I don't want to go home. My parents don't want me there." He growled.

I turned and looked at him. "Max look at me." I snapped. He frowned and looked at me. "Your parents love you. They are just upset because one of their children got hurt. If you had gotten hurt and not Shelby she'd feel the same right now." I said sternly walking over.

"Come on birthday boy let's go back." I said smiling and took his hand.

Max chuckled and kissed my head. "We probably should hide this from our fathers until I become Alpha and they can't question anything." He said sadly.

I whined but nodded in agreement. "I'm sure my father won't be thrilled about it either." I whispered and pressed into his side and frowned seeing the Alpha house.

"Ok if anyone asks we were in town playing at the arcade." Max said and let go of my hand walking into the house. I frowned and followed him just to hear yelling from his father and my own.

"Your son took my daughter with him wherever they went! She's just a child!" Charles yelled at Cody.

"My son didn't take her anywhere! If she went with him it was at her own free will!" Cody snapped.

Max looked at me and frowned.

I growled and walked into the room. "Excuse me!" I yelled looking between them angrily.

"Avery there you are. Where were you?! Your mother and I were worried sick!" Charles yelled and pulled me into a tight hug.

"I was at the arcade with Max." I growled and pulled away from him and looked over at Max

Max shyly walked into the room looking down at the floor. I frowned watching my mate. I felt so helpless watching him.

I looked over seeing Cody walk up to his son. My heart pounded in my chest rapidly.

Cody grabbed him and pulled him into a tight hug making him gasp. Max hugged him back tightly. "I thought you ran away for good." Cody said.

"I'm sorry." Max said pulling away. Cody smiled and quickly grew angry seeing the mark on his neck.

"What the hell is this?!" He yelled pointing to the mark

Max looked at him shocked. "I fell. It must've bruised." He said touching the mark wincing slightly.

Cody growled. "Don't bull shit me boy. I know a mark when I see one." He snapped.

Max growled at his father. "I don't see what's the big deal I'm eighteen!" He yelled.

I whined and pulled my shirt up some trying to hide my mark.

"Who is She!" Cody snapped looking at Max

Max growled at his father. "I'm not telling you." He snapped. "Oh so you're trying to protect her now?" He yelled.

"Now why don't we just take a deep breath and calm down." Charles said stepping towards them.

Cody looked at him then at me. My mark must have been showing enough for him to recognize it.

"Avery is your mate!" Cody yelled looking at Max.

He growled and quickly moved in front of me holding me behind him growling at our father's.

Charles looked at me. "Is this true?" He growled.

I swallowed hard and nodded. "It's true. And you can't take it back." I said and pressed into Max's back.

Max held me close growling still.

"It's not like you two have had sex already." Charles growled.

I whined growing quiet. Max looked back at me then Charles.

Charles growled. "You defiled my daughter!" He yelled taking a step towards us. Cody grabbed him quickly pulling him back.

"Let go of me!" Charles yelled thrashing around.

"Calm down! You can't undo what they did!" He yelled holding my father back pinning him to the wall.

"I don't ever want to see her again never!" Charles screamed.

I teared up and pulled away from Max running out of the house and shifting into my wolf.

I ignored Max yelling for me the pain in my chest hurting. I knew it was telling me to go back to him.

I shook my head and kept running into the forest.

Soon I heard a gun shot. I felt a searing pain in my shoulder. I fell to the ground breathing hard.

I tried to get up but my right shoulder gave out on me. I cried out and looked around scared.

That's when I saw them. Hunters coming towards me. My heart pounding. Do I play dead?

I whined loudly and looked around. I wasn't in my pack's territory anymore. I'd didn't recognize this part of the forest.

I howled as loud as I could for anyone to help. I dropped my head and looked at the hunters watching as one pointed a gun towards me
