Chapter 16

Max's POV

I sighed heavily walking into my room and smiled seeing my mate curled up on our bed asleep. Her sides slowly rose and fell as she breathed in her sleep. Her hair was still in a pony tail, her shoes still on. I shook my head and walked over taking her shoes off slowly then her pants. I pulled the blankets over her. Grabbing onto the ponytail I carefully pulled it out of her hair.

Smiling big I kissed her temple before undressing myself and slipping under the covers pulling her flush against my body.

Avery groaned and woke. "Is everything ok?" She croaked before snuggling closer to me kissing my bare chest softly. I sighed heavily and rubbing her back my wolf purring in joy feeling her kiss my chest.

"Yes everything will be ok. We are currently trying to track down the other male. Mike is being interrogated as we speak." I said softly rubbing the side of her stomach. I smiled big feeling one of the twins move.

"You mean he's being beaten up to get him to talk? I know how alpha's do things Max, my father would come home after helping yours smelling of strangers and covered in blood sometimes. You don't need to sugar coat things with me." She teased and kissed my nose.

I laughed and nodded. "I'm sorry. But yes, Lucas and a few others are down there." I said and sighed heavily and looked at the time seeing that it was midnight. "Avery honey, you need to go back to bed its late." I said softly and looked at her.

Avery whined loudly. "Can you rub my back?" she whined. I rolled my eyes but nodded. "Only if you promise me you will go back to sleep." I said softly and sat up humming.

Avery nodded and rolled to her stomach. I whined watching her lay on her stomach. "Don't whine, the babies will be fine for a few minutes until it starts to be uncomfortable." She whispered her eyes resting.

I rolled my eyes and started to rub her shoulders earning a groan from her. I smiled and continued as fast as I could moving down her back rubbing out all of the knots. Soft snores came from her making me smile even more. I turned her so she was on her side and kissed her temple before crawling back over to my side laying down.

I starred up at the ceiling unable to fall asleep at all. I'm not sure what is keeping me up. Sighing heavily, I got back up and headed to my office and grabbed some papers before going back to my room sitting on my side of the bed reading through all of the reports to see if there was any sign of the patrols coming across a building of some sort.

Glancing over at Avery every now and then. I looked back at the papers trying to hold in a growl of frustration. Then it hit me. If Mike was on any of these patrols he must have written up the reports to keep the building hidden. I growled quietly and tossed the reports to the floor in frustration. I hated this. I hated feeling weak like this.

I hate feeling like I can't figure out a problem. What I have been Alpha for almost five months now and everything has been shot to shit.

Running my hand through my hair I looked over at the clock seeing that it was six in the morning. Sighing heavily I leaned over and kissed her head before going downstairs to start a big breakfast for her.

Pulling out eggs, cheese, bacon, and toast I started scrambling the eggs adding the cheese to it before pouring the mixture in the pan then adding the bacon into another pan. An amazing aroma filled the room. Soon my beta was in the kitchen following his nose obviously.

"What does Jordan not feed you?" I asked glancing over my shoulder at him. He whined at me sitting at the breakfast bar. "She does but food is food and that smells amazing." He said watching me hungrily.

I laughed and got him some coffee. "Well if you can smell it I hope Avery can." I said serving up three plates of food setting a plate in front of Lucas. Lucas grabbed his fork before looking up at me for permission. I nodded to him and smiled smelling the sweet vanilla smell of my mate. I looked over seeing her walking over rubbing her eye. She just had on of my shirts on it stopping mid thigh. I held in a low growl before setting her plate on the counter next to Lucas before getting her a cup of Earl Grey tea.

"This looks good." She croaked sleep lacing her voice heavily. I smiled and kissed her forehead setting her tea down. Lucas grunted in respond to Avery. Avery glanced at him and smiled before starting to eat. I smiled and ate my own food and looked at Avery smiling watching as she slowly ate her food.

Avery finished her food before both of us making herself blush red. I smiled and gave her the rest of mine. She eyed me before accepting the food humming as she ate.

"Lucas, you are dismissed for today. I know your mate is close to giving birth. Go and see her for the day. Comfort her." I said softly. Lucas looked at me from over the lip of his coffee mug before setting it on the counter.

"Alpha, I would love to do that but we still need to find the male that did those things to Shelby." Lucas said softly and frowned at me. I sighed heavily. "I know but today at least take a break The patrols will go on and other pack life like just an other normal day. Go and enjoy yourself with her please." I said. Avery set a hand on his shoulder making my wolf growled quietly.

I agreed with him. I didn't like how she would freely touch other males. I cleared my throat. Lucas shrugged off her hand sensing my discomfort. "I will go and spend my day with my mate. You should do the same Alpha. Good day." He said standing and nodding to us and leaving the house.

Avery looked at me and smiled. "What are we going to do today?" She asked excitement playing across her face. I chuckled. "Hmm how about we go to town and shop?" I asked. Avery squealed loudly and shot up the stairs. I laughed and sighed heavily and texted my father.

'Hey dad, can we get Avery's baby party going? I know this is all of a sudden, but I feel like it would bring the pack back to normal after all the events.'

I bit my lip waiting for a response as I headed up the stairs to our room to get dressed for the trip to town.

'That would be perfect Max! Your mother is already on the phone calling people to come over. Have her distracted for a few hours. I will text you when to come back home.'

I smiled big reading the text walking into our room before quickly changing and looking at Avery once she came from the bathroom. "Ready?" I asked her smiling big. Avery smiled and nodded taking my hand as we walked downstairs to my truck that was parked outside.

I helped her climb up into the truck before closing the door and walking over climbing into the drivers side before heading to town. I smiled big already excited to come back home.
