Shelby's POV

I groaned moving some on the bed. I woke and looked around seeing the walls of the hospital.

I jumped feeling someone take my hand I looked over and saw it was my mother.

My father sat on the other side of my bed. I looked over at him then saw my leg. Just below the knee, was in a cast.

"W...what happened?" I managed to say and looked at them.

"You ran into a bear trap." My father said softly and squeezed my hand.

"What about Max? Is he ok? Where is he?" I asked worried for him.

My father growled and looked at my mother. "What did you do to him!" I screamed ripping my hands away from them panicking. They hurt him!

"Shelby calm down." My father growled standing.

I looked at him panicked.

Collins quickly ran into the room. "Alpha! Luna! Please leave her be she needs to rest!" He yelled and pushed them out of the room closing the door locking it.

I started to cry covering my face with my hands.

Collins frowned and sat on the edge of the bed. "Shelby, sweety, Tell me what wrong?" He asked softly

"They hurt him didn't they?" I sobbed and looked at him.

Collins frowned. "No they didn't but he ran off. But Avery followed him don't worry." He said softly.

"Where did they go?" I asked watching him.

Collins shrugged. "Who knows where they went. Now get some rest you've had a very big day." He said and kissed my head and got up turning the lights off and heading out.

I sighed and laid there looking up at the ceiling.

My brother was my rock when my parents were busy. He is my protector, I don't see him as my Alpha, but as a best friend. An irreplaceable best friend.

I don't know what I would do without him. With him being the oldest; I'm sure my parents have been less strict with me.

Groaning I rolled to my side looking at the window. I closed my eyes soon falling asleep.

**
I jumped waking up and heard yelling.

I rolled over and looked towards the door.

It was Collins and his mate Derrick. I frowned. Why were they yelling at each other? They are like the perfect couple.

I groaned and got up and grabbed the crutches and leaned on them frowning at my leg. I limped towards the door and opened it looking at the two males.

"Can we talk about this tonight!?" Collins yelled and looked at me and forced a smile.

"I see you are walking!" He said excitedly.

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah yeah I know. Are you two ok?" I asked watching Derrick walk away.

Collins sighed. "It's just our daughter. She recently found her mate and he's having issues with her moving out is all." He said shrugging.

"Oh well I hope it all goes good for her and you guys!" I said trying to cheer him up. I could tell it was eating at him but he is strong.

"Can I get some food please?" I asked softly my stomach growling.

"Of course!" Collins said leading me to the cafeteria. He got me a bunch of food and brought it to a table.

I sighed and sat down and looked at him. "Your brother is able to become Alpha today." He said sipping some coffee.

"I know. It's his birthday and I haven't been able to say happy birthday." I said frowning nibbling at the scrambled eggs.

Collins nodded. "I'm sure Avery got him back home safely." He said smiling.

I looked up at him. "Why do you sound so confident in her? It's not like they are mates." I said laughing taking a bite of my rye bread.

Collins smiled at me. I nearly choked on my bread. "No way." I said looking at him shocked.

He shrugged. "Rumor is they are. With the way they act around each other and things. People were thinking they are just waiting to mark each other until Max became Alpha." He said and took some grapes from my tray

I hummed. "Well I'm happy for them." I said smiling. "You should be happy for your brother no matter what." Collins said softly

I rolled my eyes. "Yes mom." I teased making him laugh.

I sighed heavily. "They haven't even come to see if I'm ok yet." I said frowning.

"Can I tell you something?" I asked looking at Collins taking a break from eating.

Collins set his coffee cup down after taking a sip. "Of course you can. It's safe with me." He said smiling.

I took a deep breath and looked at him. "Max has always been in the spot light with my parents. Sometimes I feel I wasn't a baby they planned on having. Max gets everything he wants. He barely has to ask and I have to beg for things. I feel so unwanted." I sobbed and started to cry

Collins whined and moved and rubbed my back. "Shelby honey your parents were thrilled whenI they found out they were having you. Things may have changed when Max turned sixteen; that was because he started training as Alpha." He said softly

I growled and pushed him away. "You don't understand! You've never felt what I feel now!" I screamed and got up grabbing the crutches and left the cafeteria crying.

I wondered through the halls until I found the front door. I pushed it opened with my crutch and made it outside and growled.

I hate this. I hate being helpless. But why am I complaining? I've been helpless for years now.

I headed down the trail towards my house. I jumped hearing an echo of a gun shot. I looked towards the trees scared. Oh no.

"Shelby!" I heard Max scream. I looked over seeing my brother run towards me. I felt everything drain from my body.
