Grabbing a towel to wipe the soot off my hands, I thought there really wasn’t a point to do so, it would just get all over me again but I needed a break.
We had organized a volunteer cleanup crew for the school cafeteria once the investigation was done. Beth and I had gotten everyone to help. My dad let me know when they had started the cleanup process and I asked if we could help.
So we got Josh, Ayden, Darius, Jen and Talbot to come out and help with cleaning up the school. Talbot joined so he could use his vampire senses to see if he could find anything unusual with no luck so far.
There was water damage, debris, soot, and parts of the building everywhere and a lot of the other students had come out to help once they had heard.
My father and his charity club also had come out and Darius was a part of that so he had been trying to get information about the investigation from him. There wasn’t much to tell. They didn’t have any leads and no suspects.
And they wouldn’t as long as it seemed to be Dhampir’s as the culprits. Supernatural entities could hide well from the world of humanity. So we really weren’t that much closer to finding anything new out than we were before.
I sat down on a bench and drank some water watching everyone else work. For the first time I noticed Jen was always giving Ayden and Josh weird questionable looks. Since I was sitting and observing I was able to see all my friends and what was going on with them.
My dad thought the gash in my forehead healing so fast was the strangest thing. In fact Ayden had to do his vampire mind trick so he would let it go. I was not happy about that being twice we had too so soon. I knew I should have waited to take his blood again, too late for regrets now.
It was nearing the end of the week after my birthday. The school was closed until the clean up was completed. The whole campus though would be open and available for lunch period which was announced to the parents. Everyone thought that was a neat idea so they actually wanted to go back to class. No classrooms would be open for access though.
An annoyed tone of voice caught my attention. Turning to the sound I saw Beth arguing with Josh. I frowned, though I couldn’t hear what they were saying she certainly was upset about something. Josh seemed to be trying to explain something to her.
They have been struggling lately once Josh got the hang of being a vampire and educated on their history. I think it was harder for them than it was for me and Ayden because Josh was human at first. Beth still saw him that way. Ayden was always a vampire for me.
“She doesn’t want him to feed on human blood but he likes it much better. She won’t let him feed on her anymore and he rather her than a blood bag or stranger,” Darius’s voiced sounded off behind me, I shook my head.
“Beth is having such a hard time with his changes. His vampire shows up more now it seems as well. He isn’t losing his humanity is he?” I asked concerned.
“No, just enjoying vampirism. His mind is not human anymore. He doesn’t think or feel the same way as he once did, but he does love her,” Darius said thoughtfully. I hoped they would make it. Beth knows she can come talk to me whenever she needs to. Darius wandered off to go start working again.
My eyes wandered to Ayden who looked sexy without his shirt, shoveling dirt and debris into piles, small patches of soot and sweat on his bare chest. He sensed my gaze and looked at me, waving with a sexy smile on his face. I was so lucky to have such a gorgeous, strong man. Well it helped that he was a vampire.
I got back up and went back to the area I was working on, gathering debris and piling it up for the big trash bins and machinery to pick up. Even though the weather was chilly and overcast, you can work up a sweat doing manual labor like this.
