The twins were not here at school today, I felt relieved with that. No odd stares and dirty looks. Ayden was still keeping his distance but kept a closer proximity than before. Thanks to the twins for that, which made my vampires more overprotective than they already were.
The weather got warmer throughout the day as the year was edging towards the summer. The school was buzzing with talk of prom and yearbooks. For me it just all seemed trivial.
The amusing part of my day so far was when I handed in my homework and my teachers were impressed with my ‘eloquence and style’. I couldn’t really take credit for the work but it was comical all the same. I would have to thank Darius later.
At lunch while I talked to Beth who was not feeling or looking well at all, Ayden braved coming up to talk to me. Layla would be stopping by after school today to Ayden and Darius’s house while Darius took care of Beth’s families and altering their minds. She would be going on leave from school. From the look on Ayden’s face he was concerned about something.
“Can I talk to you in P.E.?” he asked.
“Sure I guess, teacher has us doing baseball though,” I grumbled not looking at him and a little surprised by his abruptness.
“I changed her mind,” whoa, what could be so important? I wondered if he was upset with Darius and what he did last night. The blood link was still strong and fresh so he could see the event in my mind.
“It’s not about that,” he answered my thought.
“Stop doing that,” I snapped and Ayden frowned.
“It’s only natural for me to do so,” he walked away after that. I stared after him feeling guilty for pushing him away. Beth chuckled at my side.
“What,” I barked.
“You need to let this go,” funny, Darius said the same thing.
“Let what go,” I mumbled, now I was just being stubborn.
“You have two vampires who are also still guys and hot guys at that madly in love with you and while it was rough at first they have put aside their differences just because they want to be with you, Darius has changed so much did you forget that he was going to kill you at first,” Beth spoke slowly and thoughtfully.
I almost forgot about that. How much things have changed in less than a year. Yes, Darius had planned on killing me out of a centuries old grudge with Ayden when we first met. He fed on Beth, used her, controlled her mind and even slept with her but she forgave him, though they aren’t exactly besties.
Now Ayden and Darius were getting along and not fighting over me both working together to protect me and love me. I was the one who didn’t deserve either of them or their love.
I was acting like a petty human child. Well, I am human so no getting around that. Could I be with both of them and throw human morals and beliefs out the window? Ignore my human genetics and go with what I felt rather than what centuries of evolution have been encoded into our very being.
They are vampires they have an eternity to get over such things. Just like some of these trivial matters at school they must find these things trivial in the grand scheme of things. To be able to have the one you want forever. Well, there will be no forever for me. Monogamy must mean nothing to them they have evolved and gotten over such things even though they are still men and wanted that at first.
They only love, deep and hard. They don’t see those fine lines anymore that we humans cling to as socially acceptable. All they see is they must protect and love fully. Not much else registers except perhaps their bloodlust.
