Quick Note: Cailyn's prom dress is the picture on the right. The site won't let me post the video to the waltz song I refer to later in the chapter so its Canon by Pachelbel.

Applying the final touches of my lip gloss, I couldn’t help the somber expression on my face. I did not want to go to the prom Beth insisted on it with the help of Ayden and Darius.

Three weeks have passed since I first recruited Layla and Beth was getting worse. I wanted to be by her side helping and distracting her from the pain, but she made me promise I would go to prom for us both since she would be missing out on this apparently important event in our high school career.

Since the school was small and in light of the bombing that the investigators have reached a dead end on. We knew they would so the prom was taking place at ‘The Elegant’, a prestigious hotel that catered to formal events such as a prom.

The theme was supposed to look like an olden day’s ball. Like what you would see in the movie Titanic. Nothing held back crystal chandeliers and sophistication all around. With Beth out of the show and the earlier incidents before the twins showed up I had dropped my position in the decorating committee. But the school helps with the senior prom as they want it to be a surprise for most of us. I only knew as I was still a small part.

Ayden would be here soon and I was sure Darius would be with him. Since Darius had his little ‘business’ contacts he was a benefactor of the dance and would be expected to attend.

As I stood up I had to lift the end of the dress to slip on my simple rusty gold colored heels to match the cords of the dress on my back that held it in place. The dress itself was all white simple and one strap over my shoulder. The other side was bare and it dropped under my arm showing some stomach as the cords came around just enough to the front.

The dress was sleek, sexy and classical with just enough to tease the eyes. A floor length skirt straight down and there was no flair to it just enough modern style with classic elegance. My dad at first thought it was too much, but he shut up about it quickly. He didn’t like to question my judgment now that I was eighteen and nothing really  has changed that he can see or know about.

I wasn’t bringing anything with me, just my keys and prom ticket with identification; Ayden would hold them for me. I only had a white sheer shawl to go with the dress over my shoulders. Ayden and Darius had not seen it yet only my dad, Beth and Josh, they forced me to show it to them. When Beth saw it she got the most evil sneaky glint in her eyes and Josh just mouthed ‘wow’. It didn’t even bother Beth she said she would eat me up to seeing how sexy and lovely it was on me.

I straightened my hair which has grown longer over the past few months. I would need to get a trim; the length was down past my bottom now with it all straightened instead of loose curls I left it simple like that to go with the simplicity of the dress. Simple and elegant was the theme so that is what I tried to create. One last check and I made my way down the stairs.

“Holy…,” my father said when I came into view and the smile that crept on my face couldn’t be helped. To see my dad speechless was hilarious. With the full force picture of me with make-up, hair, and dress I am sure I looked great. I turned around and just watched my dad smile.

“Stunning Cailyn,” my dad rarely used my full name, it made me blush.

The doorbell rang and as always when Ayden and I go out like this my stomach clenched and I decided to go ahead and just have fun, it might be my last time. My dad hollered for him to come in before I could walk to the door and so Ayden walked into the house. Once he came into the living room he froze in his stride and my smile widened.
