My eyes regard her warily as she smiles at me completely oblivious to my new knowledge. I suppose she was here for dinner with my father. As he came into view from the stairs I had to stop myself from taking a step forward to shield him from her.

That sick feeling pulls in my stomach as my dad kisses her forehead. She full well knew where he was with her aged vampire hearing as he reassured her. Her ability to act so human and sweet made me physically ill. She was clearly not on our side and I was the only one who knew it right now.

Consumed by all the knowledge and realization of her true intentions was overwhelming my senses with her presence right there in my home. The very depth of who this creature is was mind boggling. I turned around to see Ayden standing there looking at me curiously and darkly, which took me by surprised. I flushed as I had just snapped at him and he knows nothing about what conversations I have had today.

“What’s wrong Cail?” I turned slowly at her sickeningly sweet tone. She was fishing, fishing for information at what was probably plastered all over my face, shock. I had to recover and quickly. Since I had become such a good liar lately, I smiled sweetly back.

“Nothing just a long day,” turning on my heel, heading up the stairs faster and faster. Ayden followed me anxiously, I felt sicker by the moment and my stomach lurched.

“What’s go…,” he started, but I covered his mouth, shaking my head trying to get my message across of ‘not here’ as I thought it. He seemed to get the idea. He kissed the palm of my hand over his mouth and nodded minutely, which made me smile.

The sick feeling then took over and from everything I had learned I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I rocketed into the bathroom throwing up whatever hadn’t had the time to digest in my stomach from earlier. Ayden pulled my hair back gently.

“Go this is too embarrassing,” I said my hands flailing out trying to shove him away my voice hoarse from the burn of retching. He didn’t budge, and I rolled my eyes.

I took a moment leaning against the cool porcelain of the toilet to collect myself. How was I supposed to deal with all this information? Too much, it was just too much. Layla being the twins mother, Hadrian was her love so long ago, she was with Jesus himself centuries long now forgotten, my god. She was most certainly working with the twins.

She had to be trying to exact her revenge for the death of her love. She wanted to take the lives of those whom I loved, and in a most vicious way. The twins already said they wanted to avenge their father. And for her being able to hide them for centuries, from Thaddeus, the one who helped her save them in the first place was… just insurmountable. How had she managed that? And how did she get by unnoticed.

I gasped, that must be part of what was bothering Talbot. He is going to be mad that I figured this out, but I would not tell him yet. He had been under her servitude for at least a thousand year; he must know a lot of her secrets. So he must have known and helped in some way to keep the twins hidden.

He was free of her now and he was angry and probably felt guilty for bringing so much danger to me without realizing it. That could be the animosity as well between Thaddeus and Talbot that I witnessed when we plotted to go get Ayden back. Thaddeus must have known already about the twins but had no idea where to look. Regardless Talbot has become my friend; there must be more to it that just this though I am sure is a major part.

I guess I was quiet longer than I thought when Ayden spoke.

“Cailyn love are you okay?” he asks warily, I lifted my head and stood up.

“Yes I’m fine,” I washed my mouth out and my face the cool water refreshing the flush in my cheeks. He looked at me knowing full well that I was not totally fine.
