Waking up Wednesday was a bit difficult since I had been able to sleep in daily since the bombing. But the school reopened today so everyone would be going back to check things out, rather than actually deal with catching up in class. I preferred to catch up. I would like to go to college someday.
“Come on Cail,” my dad called passing by my door and knocking loudly on it. I groaned seven am was annoying.
Dragging my feet I found something comfortable to wear, I didn’t even bother with a shower even though I had taken one the night before. I knew I would have a difficult time getting up. It was like going back to school after a fun summer again.
I tied my long locks up in a loose bun not really caring and just the tiniest bit of makeup to cover up the sleepiness in my face. Not beautiful but decent as I went downstairs for a quick breakfast. Ayden would be here soon, he was forcing me to be escorted to school now because of my suspicions of the twins.
“Ready to go back to school?” my dad asked cheerfully.
“No and ugh why are you so upbeat this morning,” I scowled at him.
“It’s a beautiful beginning of spring morning why not,” I gave my dad a funny look.
“Alrighty then, you’re never this cheerful in the morning,” I poured a mug of coffee and got a croissant with butter and jelly. I sat down on the counter and ate.
“Might have some good news is all,” he said shrugging with a sly smile on his face.
“You met someone,” I blurted out. My dad’s mouth fell open in slight surprise that I plucked that so easily out of his head from his mood.
“Maybe now go to school, I think I hear Ayden’s car,” he smiled warmly at me and I gave him one back. My dad had not dated since mom died and I was happy he finally was meeting someone. I was happy walking out the door to greet Ayden. I bounced up to him with open arms he embraced me as I planted a kiss on his lips.
“I thought you weren’t a morning person,” Ayden said chuckling.
“I’m not but I think my dad might have found a girl after six years,” I said climbing into his car.
“Oh that’s news,” he said as we pulled away from the house on our way to school.
“Yep he will be shy to bring her around at first though since I figured it out he wasn’t expecting that,” I said giggling just happy my dad might have a chance to be happy like I was. Ayden took my hand and swirled his thumb in my palm the way I had become fond of.
“So have you given any thought to starting our wedding plans early?” he asked and my smile faded. I had not given it much thought. I didn’t want to, and didn’t want to rush getting married. Not with all these uncertain and unpredictable situations going on.
“No I haven’t,” I said honestly. I glanced at him for his reaction, his jaw set a little tight but he nodded. I sighed he didn’t like that answer but wasn’t going to argue about it. What did he expect that I would just jump at his every desire and just say ‘okay’ like some obsessed girl. We may be engaged but I wasn’t going to rush it. Not with everything we have been through and possibly about to go through. I wanted to savor every moment with him.
The rest of the ride was silent. I got out before he could open the door since he couldn’t use his vampire speed in public. He gave me a look showing his annoyance. Trying to ignore his heavy stare, I watched the school all buzzing with the new hype of the bombing and taking photos of the cafeteria.
The scarred and blackened building was something of a novelty right now. Disgusting me slightly that other students thought it was cool rather than something they should be cautious about. We walked up and into the school and I caught sight of Beth and Josh. They didn’t look to be in a good mood either.
