Ayden and I stood there frozen, shocked staring at each other. It must have been awhile because Beth on the phone thought I had hung up.

“You still there Cail?” she questioned.

I stammered, “Yes I am sorry Beth, how far along do you think you are?”

The pregnancy will be accelerated’ Ayden said in my head. I waved him off to shush him.

“I don’t know I’m just late and we waited and waited for my period to come and it hasn’t and I…Cailyn I already feel it,” she sounded so afraid, I was afraid for her. I was at a loss for words. What do I say to calm down my best friend who is pregnant with a vampire human hybrid?

“Okay Beth just stay calm, I’ll have to find Talbot, I think he might know something and in the mean time I’ll send Ayden off to do some research,” this means I would have to confront Talbot with my suspicions but I would do that privately.

“Okay,” her voice was small. I hated hearing her sound so discouraged.

“How is Josh?” I ask.

“He doesn’t understand, we talked a lot about it before, just out of curiosity and stuff, it’s like just him thinking about it willed his body to do it,” I glanced at Ayden quickly from this. I think that’s exactly how the males do it; they have to will themselves to do so. So it must mean Josh had wanted to at some point. What was he thinking?

“Put Josh on the phone,” my tone was a little more snappish than I had wanted. There was some shuffling and mumbling on her end of the line.

“Cail,” he sounded sheepish.

“What were you thinking?” I hissed into the phone. I peeked around the corner; my dad was glued to the TV still. I paced slightly back and forth in the kitchen.

“I don’t know Cail, I was thinking how nice it would have been to have kids with her when I was human,” he said trying to give me some form of an answer.

I mentally kicked myself for feeling relief that the twins most likely won’t harm her or Josh now that she was pregnant. I had a gut feeling they wouldn’t harm their own kind. The only thing is I didn’t want this for Beth, or to happen to Beth. I had volunteered to become pregnant, to use it to buy us time but it seems it’s going to happen regardless, just not to me.

“Damn it Josh you’re not supposed to will yourself into wanting these things,”

“I didn’t think I had,” he screeched and I grinded my teeth.

“We will talk later you just keep Beth calm until we can get some information, put her back on the phone,” I snapped at him, he made me so angry. Doesn’t he realize he needs to be careful what he does with his body as a vampire after all this Dhampir crap?

There really was no point in being angry it’s not like we knew exactly how these things happen. But I was going to find out.

“I’m sorry Cail,” Beth said.

“It’s not your fault don’t you dare think that, we will figure out what to do just stay calm and get some rest,” I tried to reassure her but she must be terrified.

“Okay,” her voice trembled.

“Beth you will be fine we won’t let it hurt you,” I could tell she was nodding.

“I’ll let you know when we find something and we will all talk tomorrow,” again more talking, I sighed inwardly. We hung up with a bit more coaxing a few minutes later. I stared down at my phone after I hung up trying to figure out what to do.
