Tonight was supposed to be a good night. I had been looking forward to this night for a while now, but it all came crashing down when the stupid APUSH test decided to rise to the surface of the middle of the sememster.
I had been at Denvore High School for three years now, and this would be my fourth year in counting; allow me to say that I, Jessica Brickett, hated this year more than any other year. This was the year where my friends and I were supposed to finally kick back and enjoy our final year at this school where our friendship grew; unfortunately, all of them practically betrayed me by signing up for yet another advanced placement U.S. History class. Because of that damn class, they left me alone at the very first Glee Club bonding day.
"I can't believe you guys aren't coming," I complained to my friends Jay, Ava, Sterling, and Samantha.
"We're sorry, Jess. AP classes come first when you're in this stupid school," Sammy shrugged through the webcam.
I sighed and fixed my white t-shirt & jean shorts before applying a light coat of mascara to my eye lashes. Webcaming with four of my best friends on the first bonding night of Glee Club was not what I pictured this night to be.
This casual arcade banquet was supposed to be the first night where the Advanced and Beginning Glee Club could have a bonding day together. Sadly, my best friends weren't able to attend due to excessive loads of homework and studying from their college course classes.
"Why did you guys have to take AP classes this year?" I groaned, feeling the ache in my chest while knowing I was going to end up being alone. "I thought that we agreed to take it easy this year. This is the last time that we get to spend time with each other. Don't you see that?"
"Well, the fact that we want to prepare for college..." Jay trailed off as he smiled shyly, lagging a little on his side of the screen.
Ava's screen glitched a little before coming back on. "Come on. It's not like we planned this, Jess. We wish we could go as much as you want us to."
"I mean, you can at least pretend we're there?" Sterling shrugged. "I mean, you always hang out with us. We're all practically family. Try to use this night to hang out with other people? Expand your social circle! Go! Fly!" he told me goofily with a grin plastered on his face
I sighed and rolled my eyes. "That doesn't change the fact that I am hurting because of all of you," I muttered with a glare and glanced at the time. I sighed and gave a fake smile to the traitors. "I have to go, guys. The bus will leave without me if I don't."
We said our final goodbyes and I exited out of the webcam app of my phone, feeling a blanket of loneliness fill my chest.
After one last look in the mirror, I walked out of the ladies dressing room and walked into the music room. Shoving past countless people, I began looking for anyone who I could possibly spend time with other than my best friends.
Of course, everyone had their own little clique to hang our with. If I would ever interfere with one of them, I knew I would end up feeling left out.
"This is what happens when you don't expand your social circle," I heard Sterling's voice say to me in my head.
Just when I thought all hope was lost, someone called out my name.
"Jess!"
I looked to where the voice came from and my good friend, Louis Tomlinson, came walking towards me with a smile plastered on his face.
I smiled and opened my arms to hug him. "Hi, Louis!"
"Hey," he greeted and looked over my shoulder. "Hey, do you have any idea if Jay is coming tonight? I've got some questions about the club uniform." He then scratched his head and looked around. "Oh. Where did your group go? You five are usually together. I assumed they'd all be here," he muttered and someone was accidentally shoved into him. "Hey, watch it!" He warned and straightened his shirt, facing me with a smile once again. "Sorry. Your group?" He asked, repeating his question.
