I tapped on my desk in second period, watching the seconds of the clock tick away. History class was taking way too long, and it seemed a lot longer than usual. I mean, I love my teacher, but this class was just begging me to leave, or even walk out early.
I snuck a peak at the phone screen again, and reread Liam's text.
Liam: Well, all my friends happen to be unavailable today, so... Wanna hang out during nutrition break? meet at the 300 building.
It was way too risky for me to type in a reply at this time, especially because Mrs. Rogers has a strict policy in which she will take a cellphone upon seeing it. Last time, a guy placed his cellphone on the desk because he was searching for something in his bag, and Mrs. Rogers swiped it on sight. I did not want that to be me.
Just as I was about to click reply, I jumped as the school bell startled me.
The class exploded in chatter and packed up, as I sat there, shocked that the clock had sped by the very last minute pretty quickly.
"Oh," I muttered and began hastily shoving everything in my bag. I'll fix the clutter later.
I got up and finally typed Liam a reply.
Me: I'll be there ☺
As soon as I got out of class, I dashed towards the other side of the school to meet Liam where he said he'd meet me. Breathless, I slowed myself to catch my breath. The 300 building was still pretty far away, but I did not want to continue running, due to my excessive weight in my backpack. Just as I began to catch my breath, something caught my eye.
A familiar looking smile emerged from a classroom with about three other boys, and it took a double take to realize just what I was looking at. Realization slapped me in the face and punched me in the stomach as I further investigated this person. My insides dropped and my heart rate accelerated as fear and anger filled my veins. It was almost as if I was going to scream, or go up there and shatter his face with my fist.
How is he here?
Standing before me, speaking to a group of his friends, was Isaiah.
He finally looked away from his friends, and his entire smile dropped as his eyes came in contact with mine. The look of guilt covered his face, making me feel like I was going to throw up, or even worse, cry.
His eyes traveled to the ground in front of me, and I realized that I had dropped my binder at my feet. A few papers scattered within reach, but I was too frozen to even try to pick them up. I looked up once again, finding him walking towards me.
"Jessie," Isaiah spoke.
I swallowed as my body finally decided to listen to my mind, and grabbed my binder. Like lightning, I began running towards the 300 building to get as far away from him as possible, and also to get to Liam.
"Jessie, wait! Jessica!" His voice called from behind me.
I ignored him entirely, and kept running. The building was still so far away, yet I kept running like an insane person.
He couldn't be here. A week after our split, he transferred schools for some odd reason. I thought I wouldn't have to deal with him anymore, yet here I was, dealing with him.
As soon as I reached the building, I thought I had lost him. My victory was shot down as soon as I felt a grip on my arm, and spun around to meet the blue eyes of Isaiah.
"Get off me! Why are you here?!" I snapped.
"Whoa. Okay, it was my parents..." He explained, wide eyed. "T-they decided that I should come back to Denvore-"
