Note to Readers: This is another story that doesn't really fit in with the rest of them, but I like it, so hope you enjoy.
Dally stuck his head in his sister's room to see if she was home after what he'd heard about her from Soda and Steve when he stopped by the DX on his way home from work. She was there, which was a little bit of surprise to him, but he was still pissed at what he'd heard she'd done.
"So, what did you do after school today?" Dal asked, his voice calm and accusatory at the same time.
"I walked home from school. What else would I do?" she said, looking up from the book she was reading.
"Getting in a fight with a Soc and having a certain Ponyboy Curtis bail you out with the cops,"Dally said, his voice low and angry.
She looked up again, staring at him without saying anything. Due to the light in the room, it looked like she had a shadow around one eye only, and a dark line half-hidden under her hair that could be a cut. Dally walked over to her bed, where she was sitting, leaning against the wall, and lifted her chin up to get a better look at her face. Sure enough, his sister had a black eye, and when she turned away, her too-long bangs moved across her forehead, giving Dally a glance at a nasty gash above her eyebrow.
"What do you think you were doing, pulling a blade on a Soc?" Dally yelled, upset as he threw his hands up in the air before letting them drop to his sides, slapping his thighs. "You're a girl! Girls don't get in knife fights! Where the hell did you get a blade from anyways?!"
"Why the hell do you care? I didn't get arrested, did I?" she yelled back.
"Almost, if Steve was telling the truth. According to him, and Soda, who would know for sure, you got caught by the cops. You would be in the slammer by now if it weren't for Ponyboy Curtis, of all people, getting you off the hook."
"Who in the world is Ponyboy Curtis?" she asked, clueless and utterly confused.
"Don't start lying now," Dally said loudly as he paced around her room. "He's the kid that saved your butt. A little taller than you, red hair, green eyes. Don't tell me you have no idea who he is."
"I met him once, okay. It's over, I'm not behind bars. Happy?" she asked sarcastically as she got off her bed and walked right past him on her way downstairs.
"Where do you think you're going?" Dally asked, following after her.
She bounded down the stairs, not answering. He heard the slam of the bathroom door and turned the corner at the bottom of the stairs to find it shut, tight. Turning the handle, it didn't budge. It was locked, so he resolved to pounding on the door and shouting,
"Get out here. I wasn't done talking to you!"
No answer, again, but he could hear water running. He slammed his fist into the door again, making it rattle, as he shouted her name. There was a clatter as she dropped something inside, and then he heard the lock click and she opened the door. Dally turned to look at her.
Immediately he noticed the white towel bunched up and clutched to her right wrist by her left hand. The white towel that was slowly turning red as blood seeped into it.
"You didn't," Dally said, slowly shaking his head as he realized that his sister had tried to kill herself by slitting her wrist.
"It was an accident. The scissors fell out of the cabinet," she said, though she sounded calm, not like she was about to bleed to death.
As the color slowly spread across the towel, Dally, feeling guilty for maybe having caused her to hurt herself, made a snap decision.
"Get in the car," he said, "and if you bleed all over the seats, Buck'll kill me," he added, planning on getting her to the hospital fast, Buck's car or not.
